Right so i cant ride it because its not >15 deg C.

So i thought i would set the suspension up. Followed the Spoonz thread and i had 43mm of rider sag. I have been tweaking and turned the preload nut on the top about 6-7 turns and got it to 37 mm. I want 30 mm for a good road/track setup.

My problem is i have hit the stops when adjusting it clockwise. I'm 15 stone but would have thought i could get closer to 30 mm than 37 :(

Any ideas where i might be going wrong? I've got the idea that i may have to fit new springs to the front :(

The seals were done last year.

Someone have the magical answer of turn a screw and all will be fine.

griffer!!

I'm 17 stone and had to fit 1.1kg (up from .97) front springs to get the sag right

Griff,

I was following your guide but i ran out of adjustment.

I wish you lived closer ;)

Think i need different springs, the bloke i bought it off must have been 10 stone at most. I'm thinking he changed them.

That bike must have flew with some little bloke on it :)

Cheers for help

you want 25mm to 30mm static sag on the front, better near 30mm as these bikes run better a bit soft on the front, 30mm with rider on board is far too little sag, i run 28mm of static sag, you wont get rider and static sag in the right ballpark with these bikes, my advice is go with 27/28mm front and 10-13mm on the rear for road work, if using on track you can increase the preload substantially to give a lot less sag

Cheers for reply mate,

In the Spoonz thread it says 25-30mm of ridder sag for track use and 30-35 for road use, my thinking was 30 mm of rider sag would be a good way to start.

If you increase preload on the front it will make the bike slower to turn in, and vice versa if you decrease it will turn in quicker.

Believe me 30mm with rider on board for road use will be way to firm, generally for road use it needs to be more compliant to deal with everyday road surfaces etc., it is better to alter the bike for track use when you go on track.

Get your sag in the right ballpark and then you can alter ride height and damping, basically the ride height will be lower if you increase the sag, so you will find that the weight distribution alters, as i said, go with 27-28 static front and 10-13 static rear, this should give you a good base.

Depending on your weight you may find that you need different springs, standard springs are OK for 13 to 14 stone or so of rider weight kitted out, beyond that you need to look at springs to cope with the weight.

totally agree with the badger

go softer for the road, you want it to be compliant, and no trying to batter your wrists or buck you out the seat

Cheers i bow to your knowledge.

I will leave at 37mm and soften up if its too hard.

Now to set the back :)

cool

don't get too hung up on numbers, you have to start somewhere but dont be concerned if you wander off a little as your tweak it here and there. where all different after all
