Hi guys, Christmas greeting, I've tried to start the T today, failed, the petrol in the tank must be three months old by now so probably had something to do with this, anyway I've siphoned out about 12 litres of "stale" fuel and put back in just a couple of fresh from the pump unleaded. It still wouldn't start though as more than likely flooded from the first round. I'd like to take out the plugs for cleaning and drying etc, does this require tank lifting? Or is there a way to do it without. Worse case, leave it till after Xmas and have a dabble then. All the best and take it easy.

found time to take a plug out of each cylinder, the lower plug in the front pot is just a bit of a task isn't it and the tilting tank doesn't really help, the tank doesn't even want to go back down, it is caught up on the center post on the top yoke,I'll have to get it pushed back a bit more, spun the engine over while two plugs were out, seems to spin over as fast as when the plugs are in.I'll get it all back together on boxing day, don't think the wife would like me vanishing into the garage for a couple of hours on christmas day

Reckless, Tank catching on stem when lowering is a common problem. Cause is Ethanol added to Petrol by the fuel companies. It softens the plastic tank which changes shape. Apparently higher octane/Ron fuel has less Ethanol so best to use 97ron. You just need to push tank back firmly to get past stem.

If the plug you removed wasn't wet, then it won't be cause of non start. In colder weather make sure throttle idle switch (called 'choke') is fully open. If it is and still won't start, close it and open the handle bar throttle half way, and if necessary fully. I find this works a treat! Once started open choke to set fast idle.

Hope this helps...

When I took out the plugs they weren't exactly dripping wet but we're certainly damp enough to smother a spark, hopefully leaving the plugs out will let the cylinders dry out too. The battery is very recent and is the larger one at 12ah 210a cranking amps on the optimate but through a timer just an hour a day keeps the green light on. I'll post results I'm sure good news soon.

I've certainly experienced the same. Had to leave it 48hrs last winter, but with plugs in.

I'm a nooby with the throttle trick, and learnt it from an Aprillia expert on one of the other RSV forums. If bike doesn't start on full choke (which just opens the throttle a bit) after two attempts with no hint of a 'fire', just wind throttle open and it should catch.
- Typically occurs on colder, damp days, until mastered.

I could smell the fuel last time and it still started this way.

Good luck! Have fun! May Santa be with you!

Nice mild day, plugs back in, fresh petrol and battery fully charged but there again it always is, fired in straight away probably down to fresh fuel and temp, either way I'll take it as a win
