If I use my bike everyday (about 100mile round commute) do I still need it hooked to an optimate every night? as its not garaged its going to be a pain hooking it up in the wet

I would guess that as long as it is starting okay then you should be okay.
However cold weather damages batteries so over a period of time it will be less effcient.

Just dont let it get to the point where it gets so low that you wreck the sprag clutch........................coz thats gonna hurt your wallet

If you ride everyday that far there should be no reason for a boost overnight. If it is needed there's a charging problem on the bike.
