And yet again!! - help needed once more

O

OZMILLE

Well Guys

AND again another problem, I dont normally beg for help but if I cant fix this one then it goes to the shop :rant

Here it is then, and noe that it happened overnight!!

The bike starts fine and warms well on the choke, though I did notice that it takes longer for the engine temp display to reach 35 deg from its COLD display??

Backed off the choke, and it DIED, strange I thought. Started again on choke till warm, then backed off, IT DIED again. Started on throttle as it was well warm, kept blipping and its fine, UNTIL I dont blip then it DIES.

ITS LIKE THERE IE NO IDLE, if not on choke or throttle it dies....................

THE BIKE HAS NOT BEEN RIDDEN, STILL TINKERING, RUN FINE LAST WEEK.

Since then I have,

DONE THE JET40 MOD, GREAT!!
SPRAYED AROUND THE ENGINE WITH WD40 AND CLEANED, LOOK GOOD!!
CUT SOME INDICATOR WIRES TO MOUNT NEW ONES WITH DIFFERENT CONNECTIONS!!

Has anything of the above caused some electrical fault so the bike wont drop into a nice idle, normally I have my pride, but the bike shops here SUCK!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP :confused

Did it idle ok before all your tinkering :dunno have you tried turning the idle thumbwheel on the right hand side panel below the tank :dunno

Hi Sprock

Sure, it idled fine before this tinkering, just happened from one day to the next. I will try this idel wheel, is it easy to spot??

idle thumbwheel on the right hand side panel below the tank :dunno

Can't miss it Oz ...unless yours is missing :confused

Look at this photo showing the tank up, you can just see idle thumbwheel on the side panel with the cable going into the TB's

Hey Sprock

Cheers mate, I am not sure about mine. The carbon side covers dont have the extra hole for the thumbwheel, I will go into work tomorrow (where bike is kept) and check it all out.

Quite possible when putting the cover back (again and again) that I have moved it or something, cheers again sprock, will post results tomorrow (lets hope thats it)

Cheers Pete :thumbup

Earlier models don't have the wheel, you have to go through hole in the panel with a screwdriver to adjust at the throttle bodies

(edit)just read you have carbon panels with no hole. you'll have to remove panel then.

Hey Brooky

You are indeed correct, there was no thumbwheel etc :dunno

Took the carbon side panel off, and adjusted the 2 screws on the throttle bodies :thumbup

Did not know which one, seems to me one is a fine adjustment and one is more course, not too sure thought :confused

However seemed to work, trying to figure out how it happened all of a sudden, I did change the throttle grips a few weeks back, perhaps I have not tightened the nuts on the opposite side of the bodies enough and it was gradually slipping through :confused

Anyway, did the job, although for about the 1st minute it back fired quite a bit (which it has never done) and also shot a 2 foot flame out the back, calmed down after that. I will check the cables another day, but all seems better.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CORRECT IDLE RPM ON A 1999 MILLE??

Cheers Pete :thumbup

Sounds to me like you just adjusted the bypass screws on the Tb's and have probably just messed up your CO big time.

You should have been adjusting the throttle stop on the butterflies to raise the idle which is essentially all the thumb screw adjuster does.

Hi SPOONZ

I think I have only adjusted the throttle stop screws. Not sure why it started to backfire, and it was only for a minute and seems ok.

Any chance you have a pic of the assembly with some sticky notes for me to see just in case I f&#ked it up :dunno

The screws I adjusted looked like stops for the throttle, just a mechanical type stop for the idle, located on the far side right (sitting on the bike).

Thanks Pete

Take a pic of the screws that you have adjusted M8

Hi AREESSMILL

Here are the pics, I still dont know how to post them straight onto the page so I have the url ADDRESS fron photobucket, hope they work.

LS sitting on bike is where I slackened them off to change my throttle grips.
RS sitting on bike is where I adjusted them for the idle.

I just cant figure out why it took over a week after doing the throttle change before it just died, I checked the LS and it all seems ok.

Started the bike again this morning, only a TINY hint that it might backfire, but ended up ok, sounds of intermittant hissing but then goes away.

Cheers Pete

Pete, from your photobucket if you click on the "IMG CODE" option from the "share this image" list it will come up with a yellow "copied" box and the code will be highlighted. All you do then is go back to your thread and right click & paste :thumbup

But it will only do it like that if you have selected the picture to view it from your album . If you are looking at all your album pics as they are, then when you move your curser over the pictures a list will come up with all the options. What you have to do then is go to img code and right click & copy, then right click again to paste to your post :thumbup

voila, photo in thread....look it dat, yer a pro ol mate...oh ya onto the right screws there, so glad yer got it sorted. :thumbup

lock the top one at 1000rpm, and adjust lower to around 1250...theoretically if anything gives on sprung fine adjustment screw, it can only drop onto the 1K rpm screw

got no answer why it altered, other than having the throttle apart, but even then, it should not have altered the screw settings...that is if they were set correctly to start with and not being held at idle by throttle cable adj. as for the back fire..maybe chk for any air leaks around the TB's and inlet manifolds. Common method is a small spray of Ennox, RP7 etc, if it sucks that in it will wanna stall down the motor.
