Am I Mad using a T for a short commute?

I've had my T since about March/April - swapped my XT660X for Weeksy's Gen1 03.

I commute on it most days unless its lashing down, but I only live 2.5miles from work.

1. You are a crazy mother using a T for such a short commute, and why don't you swap it for a _____________ .

2. Keep the T fool, doesn't really matter how far the commute distance.

Discuss!! ;)

I'm not going to walk 5 miles a day, I would cycle sometimes if we had showers & changing facilities but we don't.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had some opinions on the matter. I should add that I mainly use the bike for commuting & sometimes just go for a spin on the weekend or holidays (of which I have many being an FE lecturer).

Stix I use my bike about once every 2 weeks and can't use it for work as I'm a surveyor and need to carry ladders and stuff. However, its a hobby and I enjoy it when I'm on it. If u enjoy riding to work as NIKE say "Just do it"

Lifes to short to worry about what other people think. If u wanted to ride 200yards to work and back on your bike and you enjoyed the 200 yard ride then all that matters is what you think ;).

Sometimes I just sit on my bike and make roaring noises as if I'm on the race track but I enjoy it (joking by the way lol)

I agree bay, I love being on it even though my normal ride is about 5 mins!

I think I was wondering if someone might have said - 'Blinking eck why don't you swap it for a blah-blah, surely that would be more up your street' etc.

**** STiX you're only in Bridgend. My wifes from down Port Talbot originally and my in laws still live down there. I work in Brecon and live in Abergavenny. Have arranged a ride out with AkaGilo this Saturday meeting in Abergavenny as he lives in Bristol then heading on the Hereford Road branching off left towards Peterchurch, Hay on Wye, then stopping off for bite to eat, heading towards Builth, Llandovery, Brecon then back to Aber. Tea stops in Llandovery and Abergavenny.

You should join up with us or if you can't make Saturday meet up some other time. I've not ridden with AkaGilo before as I usually go riding with my beighbour but since I joined this forum I'm trying to get to know some people with Tuono's who ride around my neck of the woods. Any good places you know of

If you don't ride it then what's the use of owning it. Yeh it may be a bit silly for that short of distance, but how much fun you can have riding it every day.

I would get a very cheap other to ride to work though. That way your precious isn't out in the elements while you're at work.

gspy4u - I do ride it most weekdays, just not very far. Can't afford two bikes & a car, and anyway its an 03 so not worth much more than £2k anyway I suppose. I'm not obsessive about it, don't mind leaving it outside etc. but I won't ride it if its pissing down anyway.

bay - the best roads around here are up by you!! Pretty boring around here. Last ride I met with someone on here and went around Wye Valley etc. which was fab. Can't do Saturday but I would definitely be up for a ride some other time :D

Stay in touch then and we'll arrange something when we can both do it on a nice fine day. One day I will arrange for more than 2 Tuono's to go out ;)

Ride the ******* thing. My commute is about 20 km round trip. When I've had a ****** day at work, Ive often had a much longer ride home to de-stress. Even the short ride puts a grin on my face.

Shovel - excellent. I agree. That's just what I wanted to hear. I was riding home yesterday smiling then realised I was doing 87 in a 50, oops.

I have been known to burn off a tank on the ride home. And I decided that I better watch it when I was riding up a long straight street through the middle of suburbia when the indicator allegedly showed 170 kph in a 50 kph zone... I think my speedo was having short circuits that night... The only thing wrong with my lil' T is that she's so much bloody fun to cane!! And that may not be the best idea through the middle of town...

They'd lock you up over here for that kind of speed!

No middle of town isn't the best place to open her up. My normal ride home there is one shortish dual carriageway, amazing how fast you can get upto if you put your mind to it....:)

i've got same bike stix. hope ur on 15/42? it's best gearing. and ride it anytime u can m8...it's better than drugs.

reckon ye need tae turn left oot the works gate instead o the usual right turn and get some mair miles under yer belt. Thing winna even be warmed up in 2,5 miles.

Yes, lad, those kinda speeds lead to arrests, large fines, possible time, and the loss of a beloved motorcycle. Not to mention what would happen if some late night **** pulled out at that speed. Good thing I never do things like that. I might have got in trouble.

Too true Shovel.

Rico - top advice. Although I normally turn left so I'd better go right....:)

As we all know though they warm up pdq. Fast idle goes off within 200yds by the time I've got me kit on & locked the shed etc.

I like Rico's advice. I've taken it on a couple of occasions when I've been a little pissed about the previous shift. Just taking that "wrong turn" out of the parking lot seems to slip the chains free. I may only add a couple of km to my route home, or I may add a lot. That what makes that initial "fuckit, I'm going this way" so much damn fun.
