Just noticed today there's a gap between the air intake gubbins and the hole in the frame :confused is there supposed to be a gasket or seal there :dunno

If not is it worth sealing up?

On the AF1 site the fiche don't show anything in there. I would assume there isn't anything, but what do I know, I have a Tuono :lol There is no seal on my ducts either.

Well I'll seal them up just in case and see if it goes 50mph faster :lol

Yes m8, there is supposed to be a rubber/foam seal in there.

I have a 2000 RSV as well and on mine, there is a foamy type seal between the frame and the plastic.

I'll grab a couple of pics and post them up.

Go to the www.apriliayorkshire.com site and look it up on the microfiche there, although I dunno if you can actually buy the seals, think they come as part of the plastics.

Any sort of rubbery foam type round seal would work though, if you can knock one up yourself.

Thanks :thumbup

Can't seem to find it on apriliayorkshire though :dunno it doesn't seem to be part of the air duct:

or the airbox:

unless you mean part 25 that goes on the inside of the frame :confused

Yes m8, looking at the fiche pics, it's part 25 that you need.

It's basically a big rubber foam type circle that sticks between the two parts and makes the seal.

I'm just back home from a meal out with friends and I'm a wee bit tipsy, plus it's late, but I will try and grab a few pics of it in situ on my 2000 model Mille tomorrow to show you what is required.

Gotta lift the tank tomorrow before going out for a Sunday blat, to regrease the Evo airkit seal, so I'll get a few pics then. :thumbup

I think we're at cross purposes here :biggrin I have the foam seals that go between the airbox and frame (part 25) - I'm on about the connection between the air duct and the outside of the frame :confused

there is no seal between the air ducts and frame. only between the airboot and frame under the tank.

This is correct, I was mistaken!!!

However, now you have brought it up, I am also wondering if it would bebeneficial to make some sort of seal in there too!!!

The Edwards copy intake tubes that I fitted to my 2000 recently basically "push" "plug" into the frame where you are showing, so effectively sealing off the gap in your pics. I'd agree the original air intake design is rubbish! The intake air can escape and swirl all over the place before it even hits the air box.

Go for it i'd say :thumbup

it all depends what type of airbox you have. a renegade conversion for example isnt sealed at all and works even better by jacking the front of the tank up by a few mm to increase the airflow, so sealing air ducts is pointless. if you have the original airbox or an aftermarket conversion you still have to be pushing the bike fairly hard to get any sort of pressure build up to make sealing everything an advantage.

Not putting any bloody 'seal' in my air intakes..it'll make the bugger stink of FISH...

As mentioned the edwards tubes work a treat, They fill from the grills to the intake and cover the gap.
