Hi guys,

I need to get one side panel sprayed on my (gasp) GSXR and it looks like costing a fortune!
I live in Romford (East London/Essex) so my first port of call was Sudden Impact.
They want £180 to spray what is a pretty small, undamaged panel in a single colour.

It's a pear/metallic candy blue so I wasn't expecting £50, but I hoped for £100!

Any ideas? At the moment it looks cheaper to buy a panel from ebay!

have you considred buying the paint yourself? we have a company in colchester essex called gramics who will mix up smaller amounts of paint. you could then just search for a self employed sprayer or a guy wanting a private job to spray. its not difficult to spray a side panel as they have no real tight nooks or crannys. i buy my paint myself then have spray work done by a local guy who charges just a small amount. my last bill was £25 to have my seat cowl sprayed. he is a mate so obviously its a bit cheaper then he would normally cherge but there is bound to be people local to you that do the same. i would avoid the large companys as with large companys come large bills!

Cheers, Ninja. My Dad lives in Great Bentley so isn't too far from Colchester- do you think your friend would be open to doing the job?
It's crazy, the previous owner must've scraped it and had a go himself with a spray can. The colour match is fine but the paint has run a little.
It doesn't need doing but I'd like it done- but £180? Ouch!
Could just cover the damn thing with stickers?!

ill have a word for you mate and see what he says. weirdly he is based in gt bently but in the sticks a little bit. i know he does less spray work these days due to breathing issues and commitments to a vw racing team we build cars for. cant hurt to ask the question though. he is very good at it, one of the old school, no formal training of any sort, just years of experience and he is probably fussier then you are!

hi jon. sorry for the delay, didnt get a reply to my phone call to him until yesterday. turns out he has good reason, he's in melbourne australia at the moment! hes visiting a few friends and wont be back for a few months. if you still need it doing in approx october he will be back then!

Never mind- thanks for trying. I've been to Melbourne and can never understand it when Brits go out there in our summer/their winter. Gets blimmin' chilly out there, although maybe he'll be in the right place for the Phillip Island MotoGP?

we have a few friends that emigrated a few years back and bein as hes stil single, manages a couple of visits a yr. hes not really into the bikes, he doesnt own one but hes bloody good on one. maybe its the fact that when he gets to have a go its not his so no fear of crashing his own bike!
