Hi All,
I finally got my 04 (03 model) Mille as I wanted it, with new end can from SP Engineering, sll serviced, plugs changed, new chain n sprockets, cleaned and waxed and really not needing anything else done.
3 days later some moron knocked it over with a car while it was legally parked in a motorcyles only parking bay and theres approx £1000 of damage to it.
The moron did the usuals, broken brake lever, bust indicator as expected.
However there are some more serious problems too -
Broken mirror glass (I have dropped it 3 times and never did this)
Some damage to new end can
Damage to middle fairing
Slight damage to top fairing
BENT right clip-on
Broken steering lock
Bike running as if on 1 cyl only (was left lying on its side for over 30 mins).
So this clown obviously hit the bike pretty hard to do all that extra damage, but the last 2 are the ones I am really worried about and am looking for some opinions.
The first thing I noticed when walking up to the bike was that the front wheel was pointing forward and not to left as it should when the steering lock is on. When I now try to lock the steering, the key wont go fully round to the position where you can lock the steering and pull the key out.
Any ideas on what this could be ? I have heard there is a pin involved that may be bent. Any ideas on fixes and any costs too ?
When the bike is started it has a sort of muffled sound where I think its not running on all cyls. As I said it was lying on its side for about 30 mins and I thought perhaps oil and fuel might have been causing this and should clear itself after a few minutes running, but that just hasnt happened.
Any ideas on what could be causing that too and possible fixes ?
The reason I ask is that there was an assessor up yesterday having a look at it and mentioned a high probability of it being a write off since its book value is only about £1550 and I dont really want it written off and so am thinking about trying to get a cash deal from the insurance and doing most if not all the repairs myself and with friends.
I also think the middle panel only needs the decals changed, so any ideas where I could gt hold of those too ?
