That's great advice thanks again. I won't be using it until the sun comes out but the grin factor alone is worth it. It was advertised as a fighter but after reading the model history ( spec savers an all) I see now its the standard R. Already looking for a nice exhaust to replace the standard one and its not even in the garage yet. I gather u don't touch the throttle on cold starting just the choke.?

Don't touch the throttle and make sure you give it full choke (fast idle?) before you try to start.

As soon it starts you can turn the fast idle down a bit to get a reasonable tickover speed of about 2.5k seems right on mine. I knock mine off completely when it gets over 51 deg C.

Its properly mint too

In answer to the original question IMO - I am actually scared to go and ride a gen 2 in case I like it over this bike, this is the best bike I have ever owned. It's probably the ugliest too ha ha.

Also if I trade this in and miss it, its unlikely ill find another in this condition.

UGLY ?!?!?!
I also have a Magnet Grey 2003 Fighter and I think it is a way cool looking bike

Gray

Yep,Red Lion Factory had blue wheels for model year 2006 and 2007,......gold wheels 2008.
Your frame number will tell you the year it was made. The 10th figure,(usually next to an S) is the year.
Mine is ZD4RR10039S00****,so mine was made 2009 and reg'd 2010.

So I have an 08 registered bike with an 08 frame number, but an engine number few hundred less than when they sorted the alternator issue.....hmmmm
