Advice on possible write off

Well, i dropped my bike on Saturday 1st October and by the looks of things it's going to be a write off, the cost of repair would be uneconomical, now the question is, how much would my bike be worth now, my bike was six months old (from new) on the day in question, i paid £7999, i just don't want to be ripped off by my insurance company.

The reason for the off is this, i was going round a slow tight left hand bend that also goes up hill (Burniston RD, Scarborough), on this bend there is a couple of houses, one of the the people that lives in one of these houses had been using a jet wash, the water from the jet wash had streamed all over the road, i come round the bend and my front wheel slipped on the said stream of water and down i went.

The bike is an Aprilia Tuono 1000 R on an 11 plate purchased new on 1st April 2011.

It cant be that bad, i rebuilt my bike after it flipped and tumbled in a gravel trap in silverstone:crazy

repair only counts as un economical if it costs more than the retail of the bike. pics and i can give you a rough estimate to fix it :thumbup

Did you take pics .... Person using the jet wash could be liable for leaving road in a dangerous state ... If you have photographic evidence may be worth popping into the local plod and asking their opinion ...

I'm saying uneconomical from the insurance point of view, the bike could be fixed up at a reasonable cost, but i would like the bike to be back to pristine condition, which is going to cost, frame is dented as well.

List of parts needed to get it pristine again (insurance are paying)

Handlebars
Bar end
Bar end screw
LH Mirror
Clutch lever
Radiator
RH water cooler protection
LH water cooler protection
Biadhesive x2
LH front footrest

Windshield
Oil tank
Oil tank cover
Rear stand bush
Screw for rear stand bush
Side stand

Dashboard
Gear lever
Gear lever pin
Lever rubber

Sorry tae here aboot yer "off" min....

Ahl bet a lot o that is cosmetic damage wi jist scratches an scrapes etc.....so if replacin so its like new then aye it,ll be nae economical IMHO......

Most o it ye can easily dae yersel, picking up bits here an there, an some bits ah wid jist live wi the scrapes an marks............

.....then spend the difference oan a set o Crash Bungs!

:O how much!!

Well if its a right off, buy it back off em :p ( anychange you wana say the ECU is fubared and sling it to me? hehe)

Bummer fizzy, glad yer ok though. That's a lot of bits and some of it is expensive, if the frame needs replaced then a reckon the insurance will write it off.

The time involved to changed it over would be prohibitive.

A hope yer get sorted mucker.

Fizz min.....jist read doon the list o bits again...did the bike flip tae dae baith sides in?

Thanks for your support and input guys,

No the bike didn't flip, but the radiator needs replacing, hence the right side radiator protector.

You need to do a bit research on how much similar bikes are selling for. Insurance companies have to give you the price to replace the bike like for like. I wrote the wifes car off a yr ago and as I was able to quote garages with similar milage/age cars, got a good price.

I think it may be 20% of the original price.

If the frame is marked by the brake/gear lever then more than likely it will be written off.

Well, it seems i can only find two 11 plated Tuono's, the problem is they are both new, one is £6999 (wrong colour) and 224 miles away from me, the other is £7995 (right colour) which is 61 miles away, both are on Bike Trader, my insurance is a like for like policy, so in theory they should pay out to the value of a bike (less excess) that is the same colour, age, reg and mileage, but that is going to be difficult to find, i just hope the twats don't try to rip me off to much, but then again, it is insurance companies we're talking about.

Just read your post again. I'm sure if the bike is under 6 months old, you get the full value, but you are on the border line. This could make for a good case for the above more expensove bike to be used as example. Good luck

Well my bike was a write off, the good news is i got £7000 from the insurance, i don't think that was bad considering it was six months old and had 5600 miles on the clock.

hmmm that's a bit harsh, with mine if the bike is written off in the first 2 years i get a brand new one to replace it

Good advice R, maybe I should invest in a set. Suprising the damage that can be done from a low speed spill.

Good price. I paid £6800 for mine brand new obviously with 12months tax & the two year warranty which must be worth something.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at that age I would have thought you would get a new bike. I am sure a mate of mine had an off with a newish bike and ended up with a new one.
No I aint been on the pop
