I'm looking to buy a paddock stand as I'm fed up pushing the bike up the garden path for 20mtrs to oil the fookin chain :biggrin

I've never used one before as all my previous bikes had center stands, is there a knack to using them ?

Is there any one brand you would recommend to buy, or not, as the case may be :roll

I've also heard about Abba stands as it fits central to the bike and you can work on front and back wheels :dunno...would this be a better buy :dunno I've never seen one of these and know nothing about them.

any advice most welcome :thumbup

My friend uses an abba stand in his work shop and swears by them, but i prefer my harris paddock stand.dont forget you need the prong type

Prong type ? is that the hook things that fit on the bobbins :dunno. my bike already has the bobbins on.

Hi Sprocker,They're the hooks for bobbins type.I use a Clam paddock stand with hook attachment from Demon Tweeks.Does the job lifting the rear, but an Abba would lift either wheel for maintenance.Regards AL

Paddock stand

I use an abba stand, they are spot on, I think I paid about £90,worth every penny though.
You still need a paddock stand for front, unless you can get your other half to sit on the bike while you take front wheel off then just prop the front end up until youre ready to put the wheel back on.:pirate

front and back paddock stands for me mate, dead easy to use once you get the knack of holding the bike up with one hand! Makes cleaning etc a breeze. I have only used them for a year or so and I wish I had them before.Oxford do a good sturdy cheapish set.

Front and back stands for me too... although like you say ck there is a knack .
Dont put the front up first though :lol or it'll end in tears :bawling

yeah! know wot you mean matey.
I've even had it roll off the back stand whilst putting the front on(eek)
never knew I could hold a bike up with 2 fingers!!( I know its superlight--just not that superlight)

I use front and rear stands too. Harris ones are considered the best but you get what you pay for. I bought a set of Oxford ones from the NEC bike show a few years ago for £65.00 a pair and can't really fault them.

Sprocker as mentioned, you need the hook type for the rear. For me, i went for the fixed hook type that you can lock in place once you've set them to the correct width and makes lifting the rear a much easier one person job. Some of the cheaper paddock stands have no rear locking mechanism and the hooks just hang loose.

Slowly does it when you get the front wheel up as it can easily turn the forks if your not on a decent level ground , had a few near misses , what a blessing though being able to clean the front wheel and oil up the chain without pushing it around the garden a bit at a time :thumbup

Abba stand all the way sprocker. Four major benefits of using these, 1) it's a VERY safe one person operation to get the bike onto the stand 2) Should you change your bike all you need it some different spigots for £8.00 3) Should you need to remove the swinging arm or work on the rear shock it's possible. 4) Should you need to remove the front forks you can support the front of the bike from above (rope from beam) with the bike on an Abba stand.

As stated above you will need a front stand to remove the front wheel. Hope that helps mate :thumbup

Definitely get an Abba or similar, not a paddock.

My old RSV fell off the paddock stand and got jammed in the rear wheel.

If you get a paddock stand make sure its got a big handle. I have got 2. A harris one for home and a ****** short one that I keep at the fire station. The short one you have to really kneel on to get her up but the harris is a piece of piss to use.:thumbup

I've got a bid on a Harris front paddock stand on fleabay at the mo'

Abba stands look quite expensive...I'll keep my eyes open for one tho' (fleabay again :roll )

I should have shares in the place :biggrin I have just e-mailed a guy who was selling a new speedo sensor to ask if he'd put it on a "buy it now" as there was no bids yet and he said he was willing too and asked how much I'd go up to so I said £30...he agreed...so pal-palled him...job done and should be here tomorrow. These are £60 new :doug I'd previously been outbid twice when they went for £45-46
