A stupid chain question

Can you mix & max the "soft" rivet links between manufacturers ?

I have a Renthal chain (Cheers Spooky - its ace !!) but it doesnt have a soft rivet link instead it has a hard link that you need to peen, as I dont have access to a "whale" tool can I use a DID link....................:dunno

I guess so provided the link/pin diameters match exactly. If they don't your asking for trouble.

I can send you my whale if you like. It's quite heavy so will cost you a few quid to post back again

yes you can use a 'soft' master link from any manufactuer as long as they are the same width obviously...don't use a 520 on a 525 or 530..duh. I've used different brands of master links on different brands of chains multiple times with no issues. Just make sure you safety wire them and when you get the time find someone with the correct tool, or take it in to your local shop and get one pressed.

Yeah will be fine as long as its the same pitch chain, just peen it over with a hammer or get the tool, always done it with a hammer myself no probs yet, Just dont use a split link!
