98 - 03 RSV Mille Bearing & Seal Guide

OK, I needed to replace my front wheel bearings due to a slight rumbling noise and almost passed out when I saw the genuine Aprilia parts costs.

So in true AMB67 tradition I decided to look for a cheaper alternate part, this was when I came up with the idea of compiling a list of bearings for our beloved bikes that didn't cost the earth.

So here it is:

**PLEASE NOTE** I have Brembo non radial wheels fitted

Front Wheels Bearings = 6005-2RS1/C3 SKF You'll need 2 and they are around £4 each.

Front Wheel Seals = 30x47x7 R21 You'll need 2 and they are around £1.50 each

Rear Wheels Bearings = 6205-2RSR-C3 *** you'll need 2 and they are around £5.00 each.

Rear wheel seals are not required.

Sprocket Carrier Bearings = 6006-2RSR-C3 *** you'll need 2 and they are around £6 each.

Sprocket Carrier Seals = 38x52x7 R23 you'll need 2 and they are around £1.50 each.

Steering Head Bearings = SF07A22PXI NTN you'll need 2 of these and they are around £16.00 each.

All these bearings and seals are readily available from Bearing King or Simply Bearings. Both companies are excellent and I have used them in the past for many of my projects and for customers vehicles.

Hope this helps some of you save money!

Excellent post. I just happen to be looking for wheel bearings. Nice one Amb:thumbup

I've gone for the well known makes too, SKF, *** & NTN and it still works out loads cheaper than buying them from Aprilia. :doug

Nice one always good to know these things just in case.

It makes you realise how much profit they make doesn't it?

A bearing is a bearing, a bolt is a bolt etc. It's always worth going to your local bearing supplier/ precision engineering firm to find out where they get their supplies from.

I'm lucky in that respect as I spent the last 2 years in a production engineering office actually doing the buying and finding new sources etc.

It's a last resort going anywhere near a bike dealership for me.

Honda used to be the worst, anything in one of their boxes used to triple the price at least.

All,

I got the head bearing KIT (inc seals) from Marksman, about £25 delivered

call them on Tel: +44 (0)1252 345 455 to ensure you get the right kit.

What was the make of bearings supplied?

The bearings I have added to the guide are top quality and I doubt you would find them cheaper elsewhere.

Tim has just pointed out that I have missed off a rear dust seal from the rear wheel bearings.

If your doing the rear wheel bearings you will also need one of these:

30x52x7mm Nitrile Rubber Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring R21 / SC

From here Simply Bearings

Cheers Tim :thumbup

thanks to amb for starting this thread kicked me in to sorting my back wheel bearings out

but when i have come to the seals, the sprocket carrier seal is 38-55-7 and the wheel seal is 38-52-7 so may be worth a check before you order them but the bearings are the correct size.

and you only need one of each of the seals

mine is a 2000 mille so not sure if they vary for different models.:thumbup

Yeah guys be careful with those seals, Tim reported that his seals were different sizes too.

Crazy Italian motorcycle designers and builders strike again. :doug

Yep you only need 2 seals, and only order when you have taken the old seals out!!

I have some spare if anyone wants some.

well done AL for doing this guide

I have just bought a rsvr 2001, I am just going through the bike. The PO must have been a jetwash king, the bike looked very clean, anyway the bike ran and rolled nicely but the wheel bearings are all locked when tested with the finger, ie partially seized.

Here are some pictures of the rear bearings and wheel....

So if you like your jet wash, the rubber seals won't protect the bearings ! I've got to do the rear linkage next.....
