2k idle?

On the way to work today , in the pishing down rain, my idle speed suddenly increased to 2k'ish and stayed that way for about 5 minutes of filtering / stop / start riding ... then it dropped to the usual 750 ish rpm

Any uideas or just electrics and rain bad combo ? :dunno
 
Id have a look at the throttle cables first - especially the return. If they are starting to fray inside they may be catching during small movements of the throttle but not enough to overcome the return spring when you close it from flat out. Be sure the stop is hitting up against the idle adjust screw too! Hope this helps...
