2ct's or pilot powers

I'm changing the Dunlop D208's on my Mille (as they're crap) to either 2ct's which I had on my last bike and were great, or pilot powers which I may be getting cheaper from a friend of a friend, he had some fitted and balanced for £160

my question is, are they the same compound as each other on the edges ? as his were definately a softer rubber than my 2ct's but I was led to believe that the 2ct's were the better tyre.

Has anyone had experience with these two and are they as good as each other, or one better than the other ?

what about rennsports or racetechs. has anyone used race wets on the road.

My mate uses rennsports on his gixxer1000 and thinks they're great....in the dry, but not really designed for wet weather  there's no tread on the outer inch of tyre. I think the racetechs are the same ....

I have the Pilot Powers and they're a great all around tire for aggressive riding. Dual compound like the 2CT but not the same tire. 2CT is softer and will give you greater lean angle. Not a good tire in low temperatures. A poor choice for commuting. It really needs to be brought up to temperature to work right. I have ridden the Pilot Powers on the track and they're absolutely up to 8/10 riding.

I used both and found no significant differences...and not as good as I hope for the track, specially when not warm enough. Now with the Pirellis SC2 the RSV is happier in the corners

Checking the Michelin information the only difference performance wise seems to be that the 2CT is better for track use. I also note that the standard PP is rated higher for commuting which suggests slightly better durability. It doesn't actually say that the standard Pilot Powers are dual compound?

I have Rennsports on mine at the moment. Nice feel in the dry. I haven't had any moments in the wet but my confidence isn't high in these conditions just because of what I know about the Rennsports. Riding with my brother on Pirelli Supercorsas he had a couple of moments one day when I had none, raised the confidence in the Rennsports/wet-damp somewhat.

I used Pirelli Corsa III's on my last bike and they were a very nice tyre. I felt confident in the wet and they were great in the dry.

I ran Pilot Powers on my old Mille - gripped well but I dodn't like the triangular profile too much.
Have Bridgestone 014's on the newer bike and I get on very well with them.

Difficult one to call, tyres being a very subjective issue....

.

I read that too. What I'd like to know is, are the powers the same compound as the 2ct outer band (I know the middle band is harder for more durability) :dunno

My mates tyres (pilot powers) felt much softer than the 2ct's I had on the cbr, and I thought it would have been softer on the 2ct's :confused

I was looking at getting 2ct's or Metzeler M3's, but can get the pilot powers cheap.

Think the PP's are the same compound as the edges of 2CT's. The centre band of the 2CT is harder....

Cheers buddy thats what I want to know. :thumbup I was happy with the 2ct's but if they're the same grip as pilot powers then i'll get them as I can get them cheap

Cheers V8..and everyone elses input :thumbup

I ran 2 sets of Met M3 on mine, good tyres and never gave me any scares, milage wasnt that good, got about 2500 out the rear, on advice ive changed to Pilot Powers and have to say they fill me with more confidence on corners than the M3, you can feel them digging in when ya open up out of corners so ill be sticking with these for now, thats a good price sprocker, i paid £200 fitted for mine :thumbup:thumbup

i used to run 190 but have dropped back to 180, its ment to turn in better but to be honest i cant tell the difference so will go back to a 190 next time, they look better :thumbup:thumbup

Coming up to changing my tyres think i'm going to go for the PIRELLI DIABLO CORSA III (ditching the 208's haha)

120/65 ZR 17 M/C (56W) TL

190/50 ZR 17 M/C (73W) TL

Sprocker, my thoughts on this are that the standard Pilot Powers can't be dual compound as there would be no point in Michelin bringing out the 2CT's. That makes me think that the rubber on the outer edge of the 2CT's must be softer to give more lean grip keeping the standard compound in the centre for durability. As you say, confusing. I do note though that Michelin don't quote lean angles dry or wet for the standard Pilot Powers but do brag about the lean angles for the 2CT's in a 'they are better way'.

Hope that helps rather than add to the confusion. Personally, I'm going to give the 2CT's a try on the next change.

I've got rennsports M1's on my zxr750, got to say there not the best road tyer i've used. On track there amazing and give lots of grip.

Main problem on road is there VERY hard to get alot of heat into, even when pushing hard if you stop at lights ect they just lose the heat. Also if the grounds damp then they'll just let go (hard the rear tyer lose grip giving it a fist full in 4th the other day).

So in other words if your going to be doing VERY fast none stop road work or lots of trackdays there good. For normal every day work i wouldnt buy them again.
