Well hello all. Some of you may remember me (was rsvr robbo), some may not as not been on here since the site crashed. Tried to register twice over the last few months but wouldn't let me for some reason? Third time lucky eh!

Anyway, I'm back & ready to rock on roll so thought i'd put the feelers out for this years riders4research event which is something I've run over the last few years on my own in my spare time for fun raising money for Cancer Research UK :biggrin

This years event means a lot to me personaly as yes I suffered with cancer 5 years ago at the age of 24 (just find it nice to give something back to those that helped me in the hope it may help others now & in the future) but I lost my mum on 30th November 2010 at the age of 57 after a 7 year battle with the disease.

Last year’s successful riders4research ride-out event was to watch the BSB at Silverstone. Was a great day (couple of pics at the end of the thread) so considered doing something similar this year to watch the WSB at Silverstone, but the interest does not seem their this time. So, I’ve gone back to the drawing board & my original plan that I wanted to do last year of running a track day in which all profits will go to Cancer Research UK.

I promoted a track day get together for Ape riders at Cadwell Park 2 weeks ago on a few forums just for kicks (not here as couldn't god damn register). Went down well & over the months leading up to the event I got to know the guys behind Easy Track (the organisers) pretty well so they are now behind me on this 100% & are willing to help out big time. Date, cost & venue TBC but from our recent talks a
Friday during July / August at the Snetterton 300 for £90-£100 is on the cards

Judging by the turn out to the recent Cadwell Park shindig, there are a few riders out their keen to do track days, we should have the weather on our side & being it’s all for a good cause I’m sure peeps would be eager to put themselves out for it :dunno

From the comments made on the Cadwell Park threads, I know there are some track day virgins keen to pop their cherry but struggling to commit / cross that threshold. Track days suit all levels of rider in a safe environment. You can push yourself & your bike just that little bit more than on the road & I guarantee you’ll be smiling like a Cheshire cat after lap 1. I’m *****, only done a couple but keep wanting more.

The guys at Easy Track are in contact with some of the big names in the superbike world & will be actively speaking to them with the intention of getting them to join / ride with us for the day!

I’m hoping we can make this event work & it would be good to have a few guys head up the day before to make a night of it. Remember, it’s all for Charity, all about fun & meeting like minded people doing something we all enjoy so watch this space.

Cheers, Robbo

OK, I have a bit more of an update regarding the 2011 riders4research event :biggrin

It will be held on Thursday 18th August at the all new Snetterton 300 circuit.

I am waiting for the guys at Easy Track to set up the booking page & to confirm the actual price. They have approached MSV to explain what this charity bash is for to see if they can obtain a discounted hire cost, it will be at best £99 & at worst £119 per rider for the day.

Long & short of it is we need as close to 90 riders in total to make any kind of profit to donate to Cancer Research UK. The day will be split into 2 or 3 groups dependant on level of experience, so plenty of track time for all. Anyone who has experienced an Easy Track event before will vouch for this along with how well the day is run.

I’d love to get a few first time track day virgins involved to pop your track day cherry in a very safe environment for a great cause. Those that say track days aren’t for them, probably haven’t done one & trust me when I say you don’t know what you’re missing, you will be smiling from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat after lap one. Right up to the other end of the scale. If your 100th track day on a race prepped machine, Aprilia or not, everyone’s welcome :thumbup

I plan to promote this on the Aprilia forums only at first, the booking page for the day will be exclusive to us & we will have a 5 week window to get involved . If space fills up, great, if not it will be promoted elsewhere by Easy Track & myself to make up the numbers needed. So come on guys, don’t let distance be our downfall! It doesn’t matter whether you are based in Scotland, Ireland, Wales or England, their is nothing stopping you booking a £19 a night travel lodge & making a few days of it, I will be.

Again, I have the backing & support from Griff at Aprilia Performance for this year’s event. He will be joining us for the day & as always will be pushing hard for potential attendees that use his services, bike related or not :lol

Once I have all details I will start a new thread with all information, just posted the confirmed date & venue on here for you to get in your diaries.

Hiya Rob.

The 18th is a good date with me, just after my deadline. Keep us updated I might be up for this. :)

well done robbo for your efforts, brilliant idea to raise money. i cant make the trackday as first baby is due sometime around then so money is a little tight, but if you let me know any of the charities details i will gladly use it as my donor charity for next yrs marathon and any other fundraising i do throughout the yr. (generally marathons, half marathons etc, anything people will donate for.) good luck with it. i hope the day produces a good profit for them.

Cheers ninja609. Fair play with the running malarkey. Went up to watch a few friends in the London marathon on Sunday with the wife & kids (she is due baby no.3 this weekend so was hoping the day out / walk would encourage it along but nowt) and it looked hard work. Am hoping to have a crack myself next year!

The bike charity bashes I do simply raise money for Cancer Research UK as it benefits all genders, ages, etc... across the country. It’s a great charity (helped me personally with my battle 5 years ago at the age of 24) but some of the money raised gets eaten up in admin / staffing costs, which is a tad annoying. I fancy doing a bit for a charity called ‘The Primrose Centre’ which helped my mum during her fight with breast cancer, which she lost in November last year. They just help people pamper themselves during tough times. Thing is, it's a personal charity to me & means nothing to others that would never come across it, so would prove hard work to get people involved on a national scale, hence the marathon thing :biggrin
