2002 RSV Mille R - Occasionally Cutting Out?

Hi Chaps,

I've only owned my bike for about two weeks. I've been out on it about a dozen times, but the last to times the bike has cut out after 10 - 15 minutes of riding.

After it has cut out, if I turn the ignition off and on again, the bike starts and I can continue riding.

Any ideas?

(when it cuts out, all the electrics / lights are still working)

It would cut out when ever I was riding a left hand bend. Would just totaly cut out, all electrics still on. Would pull up and the bike would start off the button with no hesitation/issue. When I inspected the switch it was corroded and a little exposed to the elements. I cut the end off the switch and removed it. I also bridged the 2 outer wires IIRC going into the loom. never happened since. I did have a small issue with my alarm behaving erratically but was only present for 5 miles when I was having it removed.

Hope this helps

Does it cut out when your riding along or when pulling upto junctions buddy?

Any other odd symptoms?

Let is know dude!

While I'm riding along.

Went out for a ride yesterday and all was well though. :S

If it is the S/S Switch here's some useful info for you! ;)

(OEM part £29.30 (inc. VAT) - Part No: 854888)

Barra! (Having just purchased one to fix my bike!)

Or if you have a good memory save a few quid and look to the left of the bike before you set off lol.

Well, got my side-stand switch replaced. Two days later, bike cuts out again. :confused

Another couple of days later, I was sat waiting at a train crossing. The idle is quite high, so I adjusted the idle thumb screw down (quite a lot, as it didn't seem to make much difference, the idle is still at about 1500 rpm).

Anyways, after the idle adjustment I've been for about a dozen rides and it hasn't cut out whilst riding. :thumbup

...but, it now cuts out (regularly) while the bike isn't fully warm (the coolant is under 70ish degrees). Any ideas? :dunno

1500 idle is a bit high matey, unless you have race system and 57mmTB's...
should be more like 1,275 rpm
ck

I've got the Aprilia SP Titianium twin-shotgun race pipes and the chip to suit (dealer fitted / option from new).

Right, got the spanners on the bike last night. I'd been advised to check the CO trim pots has been set to 12 o'clock.

I pulled the ECU and found that the left trim was at 12, but the right was at 11. I'd have thought these should always be in sync? :confused

Anyways, I tweaked the right trim to 12 and refitted the ECU. The bike started first time (hooray), but after warming up the idle had increased to 1700rpm.

However, now the idle adjuster actually seems to work, Before, 3-4 turns didn't really affect the idle speed at all. Now, 1-2 turns changes the idle by 100 - 200 rpm. The result being I can set the idle speed lower than I ever could before, from 1450 down to 1200 (where it sounds lumpy).

Anyone add some info / explanation on what's going on?

take it TAZ bikes mate and ask one the guys there mate.

That's where it went for the side stand switch.

Because it's a really intermittent problem, I don't fancy paying £50 an hour to investigate an issue while there are still things I can look at.
