Hello RSVzone,
I only joined you on the weekend, came across the sight looking for advise on my 2001 mille. I have had the bike since 2002 and love it to death, have fitted akrapovic sbk titaniam twin system and sach steering damper and running pilot powers.
I only use the bike for weekend runs up the coast or into the tableland ranges of Cairns QLD Aust. So the bike does sit unused sometimes for say two week intervals. I find that if i do not regularly charge up the battery using a charger the bike will regularly let me down by refusing to turn over followed by electrical clicking sound and a dancing taco needle, then lose of clock and taco settings. Charge up the battery and it starts like a charm.
Does anyone have a cure for this the only problem with this outstanding and wonderful machine.

Good riding to all,

PaulEarnshaw

Welcome to The Zone Paul. I would suggest to fit a new quality YTX14-BS or YTZ-14SBS battery, replace the standard Aprilia starter solenoid for a higher rated Yamaha one, part number 4KD81940-00 and buy an Optimate 4 battery conditioner and keep the bike hooked up at all times when not in use. This should solve your starting problems

Firstly welcome to the site, we are one big happy family on here:thumbup
Get yourself an optimate charger mate and leave it on all the time. They are renowned for draining batteries, even more so if you have an alarm on. I leave mine on charge all the time and have never had a problem. If you continuously let the battery drain not only will this damage the battery but if you keep trying to turn the bike over on a low battery it could cause damage to the sprag and the that will mean $$$$
I'm still on a standard battery and the original starter solenoid and have no problems

Thanks for your info, do you happen to know what model yamaha this solonoid is off. Typical aussie yamaha dealer needs the model.
I will get to work on a photo of the bike for my site and some history about me.

Cheers.

Welcome. I also had problems with the battery until it wa replaced. A battery conditioner will should solve your problems. I usually have my battery tendor attached when I am not riding and have not had any problems since I replaced the battery a year ago.
