Guys

I think I need a bit of a rebuild on my rear shock for my 2000 RSVR. I think seals, gas etc should be ok althoug I spoke to the guys at southern cross who said that I could get the a rear linkage off an 01 and a new spring at the same time and it would make a massive difference.

What do you guys think? :dunno

Also, what are the options for the rear shock? What special tools would I need to do it myself? Has anyone done this? Also, does anyone know if there is a cheaper way to do a 'normal' rebuild? Could I take it off myself and send it somewhere pehaps?

Thanks heaps.

Brands evening tomorrow night! Not ideal with a buggered rear shock but who cares. It'll be fun even if i don't have as much rear grip as i would like!

forget rebuilding the shock yourself unless you have access to a spring compressor and Nitrogen Gas.

If you don't re charge the Nitrogen correctly the shock will overheat in minutes.

MH Racing will rebuild it for you. About £145 for my last rebuild inc delivery

Agreed, can't be done yourself.

I took mine to Steve Jordan motorcycles in Dorking who are an official Ohlins Service Centre.

Cost me £180 but there was a lot that needed doing to it.

Wasn't greatly impressed with their customer service/waiting time if I'm being honest.

Thanks guys. I think that is around what southern cross are talking about. they said about £160 for a basic service. Seems a lot really especially after i paid about £250 for the forks to get serviced about 3 months ago!! do you know if it is worth paying the extra to upgrade the spring and rear shock linkage??

I put a 100 mile Sachs unit off an 03 Tuono ( the new owner had swapped it out for an Ohlins unit just after he bought it) on to mine when it started getting tired. The price of that plus the linkage was less than the price of a rebuild.Doncha just love ebay? Plus its gold and shiney.
