Hi there, i've just brought a 2 into 2 akro system off ebay, i know they can be a pig to fit, but has anyone got any short cuts and has anyone got a template or know how much you need to trim off the left side belly pan.
Also i've been told i dont need to upgrade the chip or i have to set it up on a dyno, is this true or not, only i havent got a new chip, any information would be great. Thanks.

I think there was a downloadable template floating around the net at one point. I did mine without, it just takes some patience, a good fine hacksaw, tape and a file. If you tape the section on the belly pan once you've mounted the exhaust system, you'll be able to place it next to the outlet and draw an outline and then use this as your cut guide. The tape will also help you get a smooth(ish) cut. The golden rule being you can always cut more, but you can't replace. I do wish i'd had a dremel at the time however as it would of probably saved a lot of time filing the curves into shape that you just cannot do with a hacksaw.

Fitting tips - take the opportunity to flush the radiators and save the issues of getting the front section fitted to the head by removing the radiators. You'll find it so much easier from an access point of view and the struggle with fighting with the springs. You can get away without removing them, but you'll still have to loosen the frame that they are mounted onto to give you greater access and be prepared to use a little more force than is sometimes comfortable. Where the rear is concerned, make sure you have a universal joint with your extension bar(s) for your ratchet. Access is very tricky without and you'll talk yourself into trying to remove the rear subframe.

The easiest way I found was to mount the rear (not tight) and then marry it to the front centre section. Again it is at this point you'll be glad to have the radiators out of the way. Once you have them both mounted you can tighten to the correct torque as required and locate the springs from the collars and in the centre section. It is all a 'snug' fit shall we say.

The standard chip will make a correction, but considering the investment you've put into one of the best systems you can get, you'd be well advised to source a pc3 and take it for a dyno set up to reap the full benefits of all the extra midrange now available. If you are running a standard airbox you'd be well advised to address that as well.

If you get stuck give me a shout :thumbup Oh, and yes the sidestand will hit and rest against the left hand outlet.

Andirsv will have lots of info on this subject. I think he wrote a couple of books on what can go wrong when fitting a 2-2 system. :devious

Hi thanks for the information, it's very handy when someones had ago there self, the chip and dyno will have to wait for abit, but hopefully the system should be delivered by the end of the week so I will have ago over the weekend

bolt - Send a private message to Andirsv, he's a member here but mostly posts over on Griff's forum now. He has a fair bit of knowledge on 2-2 system conversions and what to look out for, he should be able to give plenty of good advice, tips etc.

The best piece of advice Andirsv gave me was to lift the tank for access to rear pipe, otherwise it is all but impossible to get a socket on to it.

yep undo the rear tank mount and twist the tank so it sits sideways on the bike.. you will be able to get little turns at time on 1 of the nuts

Hi bud, OK dokey!!!!

Fitting the front pipe is easy enough, as James says, remove the frame holding the bottom of the radiators and the oil cooler, take it out the way completely. With the rads now "hanging" free, you can get an extension bar with socket onto the nuts, no problem.

This may sound like a pain but quite simply the easiest way to fit the rear pipe is to remove the shock! It sounds like a pain in the arse but takes 5 mins to do and makes a WORLD of difference. From there you have total access to the nuts, if this is too much of a pain in the arse for you, like Paul said, raise the tank and you can get to the bolts from there.

Once both front and rear are fitted (don't tighten ANY of the nuts up yet), start putting it all together, the "U" shaped pipe is the biggest pig to get right but percevere and it will fit.

What year is your Mille bud?? Reason I ask is that '98-'00 models standard pipes run ever so slightly different to the '01-'03 models and the Akra system replicates the '01-'03 route and so will "sit" better on the bike...............but be warned, they will sit slightly off centre when viewed from behind!!! Trust me when I say i tried EVERYTHING to get them to sit equidistant from the subframe and it just don't work!!

PM Me your email address and I'll sen you the Akra template for the LHS bellypan.

Any problems, drop me a line.......I have fitted this 2-2 system over 10 times now so have seen all the **** that can cause grief!!!!

Hiya thanks for all the advise, my mille is a 2002, that would be great if you could send me the template, my email is [email protected].
also any ideas about the left side passenger foot peg, i know you can buy a conversion kit which is about £65.00, but if you have to convert it anyway why pay out the money or am i just dreaming its that easy. Thanks for the help.

The easy answer is lose the pillion peg completely. Improves the looks, cheaper insurance and don't have to make up excuses when someone asks for a lift. There again, I'm selfish!!
