hi all my new rsv 09 just rocked up last night and i took it for a nice ride must say it really is a nice bike had me speechless on my 1st ride hehe the finish is really nice altho some parts had sand in it???? as if it was casted in sand or something like that it was brand new out of box only had 5k on the clock so found that weird and wondered if anyone had any ideas of why?? there are a few small things i dislike about the bike but many many more things i love about it haha i did read alot about em being a bike you take out for a good ride and leave it in the shed while you fix it for another week or two and yup yup its all true :p ok well maybe im unlucky and got a slow leak on my rear tyre but apart from that its amazing. does anyone find while they are riding at night ppl flash you to get you to dip your lights?? even when you dont have high beam on?? i dont know if mine has hids in it but wow they are good :thumbup all in all to anyone that is thinking of buyin a rsv new or 2nd hand i after 80ks have fallen madly inlove with mine was heart broken when i found the flat and knew i wouldnt be able to go for a ride today haha anyway iv typed enough stuff about the bike heres a few things i am not to sure of about it tho

lack of feel in the rear brake? or maybe i need to push down on it harder being a little soft with it atm

touchie if your not on the throttle?? i start off in 1st and just get rolling till 10kph and if i then let the clutch out and try powering on it sometimes is a little jerky as if its stalling??? but runs fine once you get to 2-3000rpm and is only when slowly rolling outa corners... found it didnt do it when i kinda rode the clutch out till about 20k

its really hot mine is running at minimum 90c but thats only riding in town and rarely getting up over 100kph seems to go down slowly if i ride quicker then the speed limit

the aluminium frame holds heat like crazy and have found myself burning the inside of my legs from gripping the tank but its fine when i open em up slightly to catch some cool air altho i dont think riding in shorts is what alot of you ppl in uk do (tiz quite hot in australia NT)

does anyone know when the fans kick in?? had mine at 90-100 and nope unlucky still nothing???

should the coolant reservoir on the right and side of the bike under the fairing read full when cold and hot while the bike is on its side stand??

and should the oil read between low and high when the bike is cold and on its side stand?

the side stand is shocking if you just nudged the bike slightly while you walked pasted it it would fall over :S worried about ppl in the street maybe getting slightly over touchie and ending up costing me fairing

but all in all i love the bike and i now understand why ppl tend to not comment yammys and hondas when they see this parked next to them

Hi, welcome to the world of Aprilia:thumbup

I guess you would still be running the standard gearing? If so they are way overgeared as standard I think your new shape, 2004 on at a guess? runs a 16 tooth as standard? if so it needs replacing with a 15.

I have the original shape Mille with different gearing so not sure on the finer details of yours, but know doubt one of the others will be along soon to comment.

The stands are a known weak point, the favourite trick is to replace it with one from another make of bike,I think a 2006 'Blade on is favourite but before committing to buying one do a search on the forum ,there are plenty of posts on this subject.

Lights could be set high,I would get the suspension set how you want it then set the beam aim accordingly. I think you would have twin H4 bulbs? If you had an HID conversion fitted you wouldn't know it was night.

Bummer about the slow leak though, have you checked the valve itself for leakage? do you have a valve cap securely fitted?

As to the rear brake, well that is a point of contention world wide :dunno Personally mine works well,it just hasn't got the 'feel' that some bikes have.other owners have constant problems withe bleeding and overheating issues. The optimun solution is to fit a set of rearset pegs from someone like FUSEBOX on here, amonst other benefits these re-locate the rear master cylinder to the footrest unit so doing away with the twin problems of heat soak from the exhaust and the master being lower than the slave.

Most owners swear by leaving the battery connected to a battery conditioner like the OPTIMATE when the bike is not being used, this is because the onboard electrics tend to draw current all the time, and this leads to a discharged battery when it needs to be in tip top condition for turning over this high compression motor.

If the motor doesn't turn over and fire IMMEDIATELY DO NOT LABOUR IT ON THE STARTER this will lead to a world of hurt with something called the Sprag Clutch.

As you can see these Italian beauties need a bit more TLC than the average Jap bike , but if treated well the rewards are worth it.

Enjoy :thumbup

Christ  thats far too much to read stuck here at work on night shift, so i'll just say welcome to the zone :biggrin

Welcome Stuckon, I'm a newbie here myself, and new to Aprilias, but I understand your views. I've worked out a solution to the lumpy feel from the engine at low rpm.....cane the fkr:devil

hehe but its a new motor i cant be too harsh just yet... altho its hard not to when your mates are riding past you at stupid speeds (closed roads i swear)

but about the lights im not to sure it says h11? on the back of the light but that cant be right so i think im reading the wrong thing altho it does say 12v 55w and that is the power that the lights are ment to run so who knows??? hehe im starting to get used to the over geared jerky action when starting to roll off but you kinda have to ride the clutch a little too much for my liking so i think ill be changing the sprockets quite soon the rears 40 but dunno wat the front is will check it out later

but yes about the rearsets i have been looking at gilles, satos and fusebox AP ones but not to sure yet so will have to keep looking at em till i find the one i like the most altho i must say i am leaning towards satos/fusebox due to the less bulky look but then again fusebox doesnt have GOLD!!! :S thats a problem hehe

not to fussed about the batt as i ride the bike at least 3 hours of a week so should be fine??? probably many more hours during the week to boot rarely ever have rain here and when we do its only for a few months of the year :D but doesnt mean you must stop riding just means you have to ride slower haha

finally the stand?? is it known to snap/break??? dont get me all scared now i have a hard time sleeping at night knowing a leaf might land on it and scratch the paint let alone knowing that it may fall over!!! also pumped the tyre up today and nothing was wrong??? soapy water and found no leaks pumped up to 70psi while it was cold and nothing didnt pop or anything so i let the air out of it and put it to normal and took it for a 130km ride :) was great fun

Welcome to the zone mate! All minor niggles that can be sorted easily. When you're ready to start modifying the new beast get in contact with DrRossi on here for a custom chip to improve your fuelling, and as for the famous crap sidestand i think recent gsxr ones fit. Someone with a new model will no doubt know for certain. Enjoy!

Welcome to the zone!

Oil and coolant levels are in the manual, do yourself a favor.....

If you are heavier, you may consider adjusting the bikes ride height. This will also improve handling as well as where the headlights shine.

Rearsets? Remember that the "gold" wears off if you ride as you should, which is often. Definitly do the 15-tooth sprocket. Best improvement! No more riding the clutch. The original chain length will be fine.

Hey Stuckon, welcome aboard...
Mine came with a ton of slack in the throttle cables from the factory. I took most of the free-play out, which made it easier to toad around at near-idle speeds.

Ive an 09 and the lights were high. Got out the book that came with it, followed the instructions but only lowered by guestimate. rode home from worrk the next day in the dark and could see sod all but if I looked up the clouds were illuminated and all cars were flashing me. Got home, put the bike against a wall at 10M and did the opposite of the user guide and lowered them. The book tells porkies!!!!!

haha no no dont get me wrong i can see the road fine and clear... just dont think oncoming cars like it but its best i am able to see over them right?? i mean they have the car to soften up the blow i just have the tar on the road hehe will be avoiding it as much as pos hehe does anyone know if the k&n 152 oil filter will fit in the 09 models?? as im getting my 1st service done this weekend and they dont have the oem one but they do have some other brand one that has the same 152 number as the k&n or should i just tell him to order me up some oem ones just to be safe?? i have no slack in the throttle just i think the gearing must be up to **** but will see if its the same when i core the exhaust if so ill change out both my sprockets and chain at 3000k (along with a pc3 and airbox hopfully) im having great fun on the bike done 300kms in 3 days hehe and going for another ride tomorrow after work o.0 damn does it drink the juice tho i fueled it up just the other day and 200ks later i need to do it again oh well its well worth every cent :D i come home from work and im happy to see her rear end with a big sign above her sayin RIDE ME.. its hard not to

Can you do a mod guide for us all on this as I am not a diy mechanic sorry!! Mine is as lumps as granmas custard at low speeds. LOL about riding the clutch only way I get a smooth ride from it.
