Well managed to get my 1st ride out this year and was fun!! Bloody cold though.

Was just wandering who on here has owned an old millie and now has a new one??
I am asking because my old millie used to feel quite heavy on th steering but my new millie feels very light, Not sure if it's my imagination as i've not ridden a bike for about 9 months or do you know if this is correct?
I just feel a little reserved when leaning it over as i used to throw my old millie over and she loved it. May just be me but would like to hear other peoples thoughts who have owned both!:thumbup

I know what you mean.

When I was looking for a Mille I test rode a couple of new shape ones and found the steering to be really light. I was riding an old ZX6R at the time and they have notoriously heavy steering.

I ended up going for a 2001 RSV as it was the only one out of about 8 that felt right.

I have now got used to it and it feels well planted at al times, did drop the forks through the yolks a little more too, that made it feel even more stable.

The later bikes have a different weight distribution 50/50 and possibly you had different tyres sizes on the earlier bike which may all account for a different feel.

I've had both but can't really remember if the new one fely lighter at the time.

You can make the handling as light or heavy as you like, drop the fork tubes, (more rings showing over the top clamp), raise the rear "ride height", just do this carefully and not too much at a time. Both these adjustments will cause the bike to "fall" into the turns along with a taller tire. Follow the torque requrements so you don't gall the threads, that is, IF you realy want to do this.

How far did you raise the forks through how many notches:exclamation:exclamation:biggrin
Might give that a try as it needs abit of effort to turn in:thumbup

I ended up with four rings showing on my forks.

All I would advise is to go for one ring at a time till you get the feel from the bike you want.

It's fun setting it up anyhow, any excuse to get out on the bike, hey?

Went out today still a bit slippery but need a bit more tip in so will give it a go:thumbup:biggrin

I've had them the other way round...first bought an RSVR & it had been 'messed with' the forks had been dropped through the yolks and it tipped into corners VERY quickly but it made the bike very prone to diving when braking hard...so I got the 'yo-yo' effect coming into fast corners as I released the brakes to turn in. Got that sorted and it was a lot better..Now got Mille & the steering is definately 'heavier' but in a good way I think...I'm looking forward to ditching the squared-off Bridgestone's too as I think that will sharpen it up no end!

If they are flat in the middle it makes for a terrible ride to get it to turn
alright in a straight line you must do alot of motorway:confused
Put a good set of tyres and it transforms the bike:thumbup:thumbup

Yep....Only bought the bike in November, from some guy who quite clearly was terrified of it & admitted as much, so only rode it to the shops and back.....got a very lightly worn Pirelli Diablo Corsa front in the garage & will match up with new rear when weather's a bit better & my pockets are a bit fuller!

Thanks guys, it's got a virtually new michelin tyers on it now so they are not squared off!

As for dropping the forks how do i go about doing this as i feel it would make the bike feel more stable tipping it in to corners. I'm not sure how many rings are showing so couldn't say if it is set up wrong. Is it a case of more rings showing then the lower the forks are??
Is there a 'how to' on this or can someone advise me on the best way to do it.

You need the wiegth off the front with back wheel on the ground release all the clamp bolts to the forks and slide them up.
You will then see the notches and do both sides the same.
DONT have the wheel on the ground when you do this or the forks will slide right through:eek:
Not an easy task but if you take the lower fairing off have the bike on an abba stand then jack under the engine that will lift the front forks into the air with no tension on them and most probably be best to take the front mudguard off incase one fork moves without the other and snaps it:thumbup

I just undid the clamp bolts a little bit then used a soft faced mallet to gently tap down on the yoke until the three rings were showing :biggrin might not be the right way, but thats how i did mine :devious

If it worked mate...no worries!:thumbup
