180 vs 190 rear tire

I just purchased a low mileage 2000 RSV Mille - base model. The bike has had the engine performance opened up as well as a suspension which has been professionally tuned and handles great.

I am going to switch the Metzlers to a new set of Pilot Power 2CTs.

Currently the bike has a 180 rear which cam stock but it looks like the two other models released had the same wheel width but can with 190 rears.

How will switching to a 190 affect the handling? Will I be introducing a considerable amount of effort to fine tune the handling with the larger rear tire? If so, perhaps sticking with the 180 rear is the way to go.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks

How do buddy!!

The standard 190/50 will slow the steering down compared to the 180/55 profile BUT you have more contact patch with the 190. The best solution is to go for the 190/55/ 2Ct and have the best of both worlds!! That's what i run at the moment!!

pynchon my bike came with a 190 on (05 rsv factory)and when that wore otu i changed to a 180, i much prefer the 180 you get alot faster turn in and direction change.

also i would go for the pirelli corsa 3 my tyre of choice.

Thanks for the feedback.

By saying the "best of both worlds" are you saying that since the CTs offer quicker stearing response so go ahead with the 190s?

Tony, I have 2CTs on my Ducati and they enhanced the steering response.

I assumed this would be the case as well on the RSV which would be desirable from how it handles now.

The DCIIIs I thought were better for longer sweeping turns though I have never tried them.

The 2CT's are excellent tyres in the dry and (almost) as good in the wet, truly great tyres! I would go for the 190/55 profile rear as it steers quicker than the 190/50 profile tyre. There's only a few quid difference in the price!!

Thanks, Andirsv.

One other thing I have heard is the DCIIIs are more controllable 2CTs coming out of a turn, under power and with the onset of sliding the rear.

Go with the 190 mate, corsa3's are top tyres, best road tyre by far, not bad on track either.

Pynchon mate.......my arse collapses when the rear is anything other than directly behind the front.........:biggrin:biggrin:thumbup So couldn't comment on the sliding issue, i'm nowhere near good enough for that!!!:biggrin

Factory and R versions of the bikes have always come with 180 and the base model 190.

That partly is because the steeper profile etc etc and partly that the 180 weighs quite a bit less than the 190 and compliments the lightweight forged wheels on the higher spec bike.

Losing rotating weight is like gold dust in terms of enhancing the bikes handling. That said some cheap 180's weigh more than quality 190's but generally a good 180 will weigh a fair bit less.

If you want handling go with the 180..if you want to pose go with the 190 but it won't handle as good.

take it you were not using them in Spain mate:eatcorn

LOL Supercorsa SP's actually, It was rider error 100%, I wouldn't blame the tyres at all, infact I just bought a spanking new pair of SP's :thumbup

I got to a point where I realised I wanted more lean angle but my toe/peg wouldn't let me, so im sticking with 190's theres no difference in handling, honestly, If anything i'd say the 190 makes the bike handle better, profile was so steep i had to remove the rear fender too as it was touching.

good luck!

Best of both worlds :)

Ups, didnt check the first page, damn, and I so wanted to sound smart :D

180,Corsa 3's.And that's ridden' back to back with an identical bike with a 190.Might be too soft for a hot climate(high wear rate).AL
