09 RSV overheating

Hi guys - my rSV is overheating the last couple of rides before winter set in, whenI start it cold it heats up the the fans come on about 105 or so then it just keeps getting hotter until the red triagle flashes, when this happens riding the bike starts to misfire until the temp goes back down. Both fans work and the fluid level has been topped up since being new. It hasn't always been like this, I rode it thorugh France Italy etc this year in very hot conditions and never saw this before. Any ideas ?

would just take it back to the shop. Will be covered under warranty.

Like already said the chances are you have air in your system.

If still under warrenty (which it should be) get it back to the shop, they will do a coolant change.

put it on the side stand and remove the bleed screw on the top right of the radiator. fill the rad up until water comes out of the bleed screw.

Put the screw back and run the bike up till the thermostat opens (about 70 deg c ish) and then stop it and do the same again.

The bike must be on the side stand so the bleed screw is the highest point in the system.

If it still overheats it's either running very lean. thermostat is stuck or the water pump gear is stripped (only plastic) in which case take it to the dealer.

cheers guys - snows just here though - so guess I will have to just wait it out for a bit ! I have noticed some excess stuff coming from the right hand fairing - water vapour and some droplets ? could that be a clue, anyway a word about warranty - I bought the bike not local as the local dealer was £9650 ! mine was £7200 and when I went there for the first service £175 they said it would be £330 as I never purchased it there !! ( wonder why ) so am very dubious about taking it there but they do have to take it dont they and carry out a free repair yes ?? ( unless they can blame something else ! )

Officially any dealer should do warranty work regardless of purchase location.
The reality is no one including Aprilia will force them too.

The warranty payments for labour are a fraction of what they would get from a paying customer so if they are generally busy they may not be keen if they didn't sell it.

It really comes down to how good the dealer is but be nice and build a rapor with them. The thought of your ongoing service work might help.

If they don't play ball speak to Griff at Aprilia Performance. Being Ex Aprilia he knows most of the dealers personally and he will likely be able to steer you to someone who can help or if your local do it himself.

Regards the droplets it's not uncommon for the click clamps on the rad hoses to allow some fluid loss which may be how you got air in the system.
Check them closely and repalce any suspect ones with jubille clips.
