07 RSVR Factory cranking but not firing... Help please?

Hey all, a little background on me. I'm a Yamaha/Suzuki certified bike mechanic but haven't worked professionally in a few years. I'm also missing a service manual and proper tools where the bike is.

Sooo
I'm working on a buddy's 07 RSV1000R Factory. It's cranking over just fine, has fuel according to my nose, has spark according to the sharp pains in my hand, compression sounds good, but it isn't firing. I'm reading about the brown connector mod and will try it when I am up there next (bike is about 150 miles away). I didn't have my multimeter so I will bring that up and check battery voltage next time I come up, but the battery is less than 2 years old (around here they typically last 4-5 years). There are also no error codes on the dash. Tipover sensor is good.

So does anyone have ideas on what it could be?

TL;DR:

07 RSV1000R Factory
Cranks but doesn't fire
Spark, fuel, compression seem good
No error codes
Tipover sensor is good

Any help would be much appreciated. I did find a 2nd gen RSVR service manual online, but can't download it. If someone can post a link to a service manual that can be downloaded, it'd be very greatly appreciated.

As for me, I ride an 05 Kawi Z750S. From the language on this forum I'm seeing a lot of Europeans, so you all know what it is. Most of the people in the US have no clue because it's not a "Ninja" or a "Harley". Can't find any parts/accessories for it over here either...

Hi Wrider & Welcome (I'm a Kwak fan too, well old skool Kwak - but that's just showing my age)

Does anything come up on the dashboard ?, does it have an alarm ?

These things can flood very easily and continuos cranking on a draining battery can wreck the sprag clutch (so watch that).

Where in the US of A are you ?

Have you checked for any cracked or lose vacuum hoses?

Parts should be readily available in the us from af1.com

Thanks for the quick replies all!

No there are no error codes or alarms on the dash. I've been making sure to keep the battery on a trickle charger so that it won't degrade too much while cranking. I don't believe it's flooding because it's not even trying to kick over. And the bike is located in Fort Collins, CO. I'm in Colorado Springs, CO.

I pulled the tank and all vacuum lines appear to be in good condition and functioning well.

It defo sounds something to do with fueling check the high pressure fuel lines internal to the tank and lines feeding the fuel filter...

Can you hear the fuel pump prime ?, have you had the tank up at all ?.

Its not hard to kink the fuel lines on these (although to be fair ive heard it happening more on Gen1's but its worth checking)

have you tried the "hold it wide open when cranking" method?

clearly dont leave it wide open when it starts...

if it is soaked a little then this will give the bike a little more ignition advance and more air!

let us know!

Griff

Yeah I tried that a couple of times. Looks like I'll be checking the brown connector, cleaning off the AIT, and going from there.

Thanks though! I do appreciate all of the help here!

So I'm pretty sure I figured out what's wrong... The cam sensor isn't getting the required 12V power. I tried it while key on, no cranking, as well as while cranking. Any ideas as to why it's not getting power?

Before going that far, check the in-tank fuel hoses. I had the same issue last year, I thought it gives fuel to the injectors (I loosened the fuel rail banjo bolt and fuel was coming out) but my in-tank hose was pinched and it didn't build up enough pressure.
Just turn the tank over, remove the fuel pump and check the hoses. And if you're there, replace the hose as it's probably going to fail anyway.
