07 RSV cuts out while riding

I'll start by saying I've been trying to use the search for the answer to this for a while but haven't had much luck.

I bought my 07 RSV factory quite a few years ago, 3rd owner, usual issues like not having any idea how many miles it has.

2 years ago I was riding down the freeway in lots of traffic and it started getting really jerky, I'd have to pull the clutch in and rev it to keep it alive. Eventually I was having to rev it drop the clutch just to move, got it over to the side of the road. Had it towed and just kinda forgot about it. Long story later I want to ride again.

Changed the fuel filter, probably stripped the tank screws putting it back on as the tank expanded, got a new battery, and changed the oil. To my delight it started right up and sounded normal. Went for a ride around the neighborhood and everything was going great. When I turned onto my street it started doing the same old thing, loosing revs and I would have to pull the clutch to keep it from dying in gear. Restarts fine, dies when I release the clutch. Limped it downhill back to my house in neutral. When I got home it wouldn't rev above 3000k and sounded horrible. Let it sit for a few minutes and it revs with no problems.

Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks!

I would be checking plugs leads and coils.

well, Spark or fuel its gotta be, ht leads & spark ok? Fuel lines clear and not nipped? Fuel Pump? I only know about bikes in general, I'm not an Aprilia expert.
