Hi Guys

So I've ploughed though 25 pages of forum help and got nowhere, but I bet someone knows

So I turn the key, display shows err, sidestand light on, rev limiter light on, buggerall else happens.

I've replaced the dreaded white connector under the passenger seat, checked the sidestand switch, kill switch. Cleaned every bloody connector I can find and still getting nowhere. Maybe not cleaned the connectors well enough?

Have I missed something really obvious?

Any help appreciated.

Have you tried the tip over switch on the battery clamp....it should rattle when shaken.

Was this a sudden change in the bike or has it been playing up.
Have you tried reading the code...hold in the lap switch in and hold for 30 secs after turning the ignition on...the code should appear in the temp display.

Cheers for info, I'll look at the tip switch tomorrow. The code I got was 0. Bloody thing. Rode it at Cadwell last October, then laid it up for the winter mid november. Never had a problem at all. Left the optimate connected through the winter. All good I thought. Fired it up every now and then, no problems. Did the oils, changed the brake and clutch fluids, booked the MOT for a monday. Did a quick 40 miles on the sunday, died twice but always started - thought maybe fuel issue. Filled it up ready for monday - then sod all !! Did the connectors, changed the dreaded white connector - well, crimped the cables. Started ok then died 4 feet later. Since then err. Gotta be a wiring issue I reckon.

check the ignition connector .... thats also crap, replaced mine with a waterproof super seal connector

BB1000 for my future preventative tweeks, which/where is the connector you replaced, and where did you source that "super seal connector"? Ta

connector is under the left side fairing ... oil tank side ... 6 way connector.... got the super seal 6 way connector from ebay

Ok then. Tried all the things suggested, no difference. Checked the the cables marked L and H from the display to Plug B on the ECU, all good. One thing I have found is that if I remove auxiliary fuse C (which powers the ECU via the ignition switch - I think), I get the same display error, so now trying to concentrate on that area.

Another odd thing is that 2 or 3 times it has actually powered up correctly and actually run!! I thought I had cracked it cos this happened when fiddling around the auxiliary fuse box. It appears not. Oh well. Onwards and upwards eh? If anyone needs a wiring diagram I've got a pdf.

err on the dash is a CAN buss communuication issue.

Bet it's the white connector on the left inner fairing panel or water ingress into the immobilisor ecu in the same place.

Basically Dash can't see immobilisor ecu = CAN bus comm error.

Right then. So had another look at the white connector as suggested. Bit grubby, gave it another clean. Did a con check on the ignition switch and found an open circuit. Dropped the ignition switch off and found the black/red cable had come adrift and a splt in the insulation on the grey/yellow cable. There was also quite a bit of corrosion on the static contacts. Fixed that tonight and will give a bash in the morning. Quite hopeful though.

Jobs a goodun. All back together - no bloody err - RESULT!!!! Thanks guys for input.

if you get it traced to a connector etc...get some ACF50 and spray them all...miles better than DW40 etc...downside is the price but 1 can lasted me a year.
