Evening all,

I've been off the site since it crashed last year whenever it was so this is my first post, again.

Some knowledge and advice if anyone could assist.

I've been riding my bike this week, all going well until i left it at work for a couple of days and then went to ride it today to find flat battery. Jumped it, running ok and then cut out on way home.

I know what the problem is already, the Stator!

I know this as it happened last year to me. I changed it ok and has been fine till now.:angry

My question is,,,,, Does anyone know what has caused it to fail?

And, Can anyone recommend a decent replacement, both prices and type or is it just the Aprilia one that is available.

Cheers to all in advance and hope to bump into a few of you again this year.

If you fitted a genuine item then it's normally high resistance from the brown connectors that causes failures but if it was pattern part then they are usually wound with wire too thin for the job which fails fairly quickly. Most are still winding with the same guage wire as the pre 04 bikes but they only had a 380w system and the post 04 bikes are 500w

Mine went last year (38,000) changed it for a s/h one £76 but at the same time I cut out the brown connector and replaced with 35amp crimped with heat shrink on. Bikes got 45,000 on now and still charging ok.
I'd noticed before the stator went that the brown connector was getting warm.

Mine burnt out 2 years after i removed the brown connectors, I replaced it with a after market one that used thicker wires but have a used one as a spare

I have also changed my rectifier for a Shindengen FH012AA used on the late (06+) Yamaha FJR, 07+ Yamaha R1.....MUCH better voltage regulation and runs cooler too due to more efficient devices and control circuitry unlike the OE shunt type rectifier

Hope this helps
