Hi guyz im new to this but please bare with me.....I have just bought a mille rsv 1000 r (not factory) around a month ago, however after a good strip down and a very thorough check of everything i decided it was time to have a go on it......I started it up and everything seemed until i got back home from a short ride.... When i decided to put the bike away i again started it and not to mention! that a puff of blue smoke came out the exhaust....Strange....i started to worry that something is wrong? I check different things on the bike ie oil levels etc etc, after a close inspection of the oil i notice these bikes have a tank type on the side of the engine. I looked at the tube and nothing was registering on it, i topped it up with some oil i had from a previous bike i owned, and i filled it to nearly full on the tube....
I have read different things about smoke and oil levels on these bikes but never gave it a thought till now...

Valve stem seals also got a mention! How serious is this?

My bike has only done 7k surely the engine isnt f**k isit?

Anyone with any knowledge then please reply......
Cheers

Not your fault chap but this subject has been done to death :biggrin

It's a dry sump. You MUST check the oil with a hot engine with in a very short time after turn off or with the motor running. The oil level in the tank rises as the system pressurises so if it reads full cold it will be vastly over filled when the motor is running.
The excess gets sucked into the air box and collects there and some may find it's way back into the motor hence blue smoke.

If the stems seals are weeping you should be able to see by looking down the tb's as you can see the inlet valve
stem.
