02 Mille cutting out at 9500rpm

Hi there,

I've got an annoying issue with my 02 Mille, in that, when accellerating hard, when the revs get to 9500ish it feels like someones turned off the ignition for a scond, and then back on again repeatedly. The EFI sign flashes at the same time. A first i thought rev limiter, but thats surely set higher than 9500, and its far too severe for that as the motor just cuts completely then comes back in. Obviously theres no need to rev it like this too often, but somethings not right. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Its got a Datatool Alarm/immobiliser fitted.

Cheers

Are you sure it's not the limiter, it can be set anywhere from 6000 to 12000. To check where it's set, turn ignition on and watch where the needle goes to.

The limiter is at 10500 rpm on these models and not adjustable, it is only the shift light that is adjustable. If EFI is coming up it might pay to have someone that knows what they are doing to plug in the diagnostics, a couple of small wires under the side vent under the left side of the riders saddle and go through all the fault codes. It could be electrical ie- some of the electrical plugs have started to get the moldy green coloured corrosion, or could even be that the fuel filter is partly blocked and restricting fuel at higher RPM. A process of elimination and going through things as it could be one of many things.

Of all the gen 1 models only the Edwards Replica had a different (higher) rev limit (11000 I think)

Thanks Guys

Don't think its the fuel filter as its such a sudden loss of power. It feels like the ignition is being cut, or the FI's not I'ing. Anyway, i'll have a look at connectors and find somewhere to look at fault codes.
Cheers

Having now read a few more posts, it sounds like the Datatool alarm could be a suspect too..................or tilt switch.......or kill switch..............or fuel pump................or any combination of these. Think i'll just change up at 9k and blank it from my mind (till it gets worse!)

Would that fit with the EFI message?

Rob :)

apparently not, however back in 2006 my bike was cutting out and efi flashing on the dash... and it was the side stand switch, well it was either the switch or some lose connection that I accidently fixed when I spaded off the side stand switch.

I have been told since that efi won't flash with the side stand issue well I beg to differ...
