Hi all. I just joined the forum. Looking to buy a new Tuono (have been lusting after one for years) and would love some advice.

My dealer has brand new 2013, 2014 and 2015 models ready to go. $2000 off on the 2013, $1000 off on the 2014 and maybe $500 off on the 2015. Any thoughts? I have never had a bike with ABS before but love the idea more and more as I get older and my reflexes slow down (Had a sharp reminder of that today when an SUV pulled out in front of me). Sitting on both I also appreciate the softness of the new seat, height is not an issue.

2014 Would seem the obvious choice but they only have white and I really love the black. And who doesn't want 3 more hp...

My other question is if any one has experience riding Twins or Triples VS the V4. I really love torque and low end grunt and would like to know if I will miss it on the higher revving Tuono. Right now I have a 2008 990 SuperDuke (tuned and modified, air box etc.. similar torque to the Tuono, much less hp) and I also have a 2001 Speed Triple (stock other than a pipe).

Thanks, looking forward to being a fully fledged forum member soon.

Mike

Hi Mike and welcome.
I'll try to give you my insight. Others here have had the Street Triple I believe and I have had the Speed Triple and Sprint GT 1050 so I'm familiar with the triple engine.

The V4 is definitely more of a revvy engine, and doesn't have the same low-down grunt as the triple but it is pretty Torquey. More so than a inline 4 that's for sure. It's sort of like the triple in that it has some of the torque of a v-twin and some of the HP and high revving ability of an inline 4. To me the Triple and the V4 are the best engines, though many love their twin. So, it will give you the closest thing to the character of the Triple out of any other engine. Many have swaped their sprockets out and went down a tooth to enhance city type riding as it is a little unhappy at the lower revs but then my Speed Triple wasn't so happy between 3-4 k rpms either.

For the $500 I would go for the color I wanted. I have the 2014 and there's not much difference between that and the '15 aside form a bit more power that you will never need, but getting the Black is important. It's hot.

Thanks caveman, that's exactly what I needed to hear! Cant wait to ride it! I am in NYC, you close to the city?

Mike

No problem Mike. I'm 20 miles north west from the bridge up in rockland. 20 mins from the bridge. Where are you manhattan?

hi, i changed from the early v4 to 14 model and 14 doesn,t have the same grunt as the first one maybe need a few more mls on it, not over keen on abs, very little comfort in seat or hight, both models will make you very happy, good luck enjoy

Hi Hitmike

Welcome to the jungle, I mean forum :T

Just purchased an ABS model in black, brand new, picked up on the 1st September.

Absolutley love it, last 4 bikes have been Ducati's (air and water cooled engines).

Had my fair share of japanese sports bikes and a KTM Superduke.

Yes the Aprilia is not the most comfortable, but it's not un comfortable. The fuel consumption and range aren't brilliant, but then again it's not at all bad.

The ABS can be turned off (as can all the other electronic gadgets) but it's the latest Bosch 3 map system and is very good, you can tailor it to your riding style. It's not like the good old days of dumb linked systems.

The purists (or ludites as I call them) hate all the "new fangled" electronics, well that's fine, just switch them all off.

The Aprilia APRC system is a very good system which you can adjust to your needs.

The V4 engine is a work of art, closest i'll get to owning a Desmocedici.

I love my V4, it's one of the best bikes I have owned.

Yes they have little quirks, but that's what makes them Italian.

People may agree with me, they may disagree but that's life.

Enjoy, they are madder than Mad Jack McMad, winner of last years Mad Man competition.

Regards

Stu

P.S. Black is bitching and way faster.IMG_1977.jpg

Hey Mate, I traded my S3 for the Tuono, I loved the smooth turbinelike power from the triple and never thought I would part from my baby of nearly 9yrs and $$$$$ spent, but I did and quite happy with my purchase, the Tuono's are sic and shouldn't be allowed on public roads scaring children and the elderly!!!!

Hi...Just returned to the UK from a week in NYC and I have to say I wouldn't want to ride my T V4R there...fantastic machine though, mine's a black 2014 & great for the country twisties where I live....If you can escape NYC to the twisties then there is nothing else like the T , best bike I have ever had & torque and grunt!! Oh my goodness!!

That's sort of the problem around here Git: it sucks until you're in the Twisties.
