Big problems with my beastie

Hi all, having a problem with my Tuono 04 model.

A couple of time this weekend it had died when I open the throttle for 2-3 secs only to kick in with full throttle a moment later.

You can imagine the trouble hanging on nose down like the brakes are on then full throttle and nearly off the back......

Any ideas?

Cheers

Paul

Ahh ok, drain tank and ensure no water in the fuel. Much thanks its a place to start

Well after having a good session poking around with the tank up and engine running could not cause any glitch but I did find a pair of bright blue tubes near the bottom corner of the tank, one of which was off its spigot/barb.
Dont know if they are significant?

To top it all off nicely, I cant get the tank to sit back down so the bolts line up, its like its moved forward about 5mm? checked and it hasnt or did the lovely dealer just force it back on last time. You really have to shove to make it clear the yoke

Yep full service by someone who knows what they are doing in the very near future after I finish my battle with the dealer who sold me it in a proper state

Loosen the bolts at the back of the tank......

Yep tried that, even loosened the black bracket that mounts to the frame, the tank doesnt want to move back any further cant see anything in the way

Ok all latest instalment of the saga.

We had the whole lot stripped back today, tank off, seat unit off all wiring connectors checked and cleaned front to back. All looked OK to be fair.

With tank off all lines cleaned and checked all good. Fuel pump good and primed well when tested and reconnected to system on bike.

We thought we would check the spark plugs that the dealer had changed back in Feb when trying to get it starting right and found two very rusty NGK's now I am NOT saying they bullsh*tted me about the plugs but you have a look and tell me what you reckon.....

They were off the front cylinder both in that condition.

I think I should just give up fighting such a bunch of numpties and get on with getting it singing!!

Thanks Ash, with a further strip and clean the hinge bolt did move back a little and allowed the tank down properly.

I can't offer any remedies for your problem but this post is an interesting read as I recently had a weird moment when I did the traffic light grand prix...... as I was mid way through the revs in 2nd or 3rd the engine suddenly cut all power - at the time I thought the only explanation was that the throttle had somehow slipped through my grasp but reading this maybe there was another problem which caused it.

Could be mate, mine kicked back very hard, done it twice now nearly throwing me off both times VERY SCARY and despite a total strip down no real answers found, except those plugs.

My mate (top old geezer engineer, v-twin fan and endurance racer for 40 years) reckons the old rusty plugs could be causing it..maybe or the ECU bouncing around could have glitched or a bit of water in the tank :crazy

I have done a lot of diagnostic work on it over the last few days and really do think just got to ride the blighter.

It really is fantastic when it goes.....

Pic isn't all that clear but from what I see the plug looks OK.

got to agree with Aldo on that on mate :yes the rust that is visible on the piccie could just be off lying water and the bike not being used :dunno

Bike has done 3000 miles since bought in September, bike is my main transport for business so get used almost daily to see clients etc. but point taken, pic not greatest but in the flesh plugs look a little old.....so replacing them this weekend. Going to give up on the dealer and just get it right. Life is too short to be that angry with a dealer who is slapping bikes on the arse and turning them round.

Funny bit is the workshop at the dealers had the bike 7 or 8 times when it gave up on me at various points, they got to the point of asking me to consult an "expert" on the Aprilias to give them an idea :crazy

So a mate offered to help me and its been getting sorted since.

Did a full strip of the tank, fuel system etc and the bike did about 100 miles after with no ill effects.

TB's balanced and new plugs, we may have it sorted....
