Hi everyone.
My name is Sérgio and im from Lisbon, Portugal. Had over 15 bikes, one aprilia so far, a 1998 RS 250 (so regretful to sell it), and my last one was a 08´zx10r.
I´ve always loved italian bikes, had the aprilia rs 250 when i was 20, but never been brave enough to get a big RSV. At least here in Portugal 98% of all bikes are japanese, and the italians, for some reason mostly aprilia, have always bad reputation and big depreciation once used bikes. Porugal importer´s fault, in my opinion.
Nevertheless, after 4 years with this last zx10, great bike but poor reliability (or maybe just bad luck), i decided i wanted something special. Something for some sport cruises, and got myself and finally, a RSV.
Took me a few months of searching, i knew i wanted a ´00 -´02 mille instead of a 04 - 08 RSV 1000. Eventhough prices are similar, i honestly find the mille better looking, and rare, comparing the newer version.
The one i bought is a 2002 RSV Mille R, full stock, 2 previous owners with the last one keeping it for over 11 years. It has know 10k miles or 16k kms on the clock and works beautifully.
So far i have only driven from the previous owner to my place (300kms) and this was my first impressions:
First thing i noticed was how confortable the ride position and suspensions are. Super smooth on the road, the engine itself feels very progressive (had a SV1000s as my first and only vtwin and found the engine much more brutal in low and medium revs) with strong high peak (8-11000 rpm). Feels very steady and composed on road, and the 60º V2 makes almost no vibration on traffic. Love to watch this beautiful bike, from all angles. I said this to some friends, the zx10 was a fun bike after 200km/h, this one is as soon as i turn it on.
downsides - I knew that once coming from a speed beast zx10, i would always find the engine of a rsv a little short, but a wanted something special, but i think the speedometer is not accure but i think it shows much less then real speed. It also starts shaking after 220km/h, and seemed as it wasnt easy to go over 240km/h. Either is something to do with the speedometer, or needs to be tuned. I know its not a speed machine comparing with a 4 cyl inlline japanese, and it will be rare for me to use this bike on highways, but something here is not right. It still have the original gearing on. Have to see what can be wrong. Ask already the previous owner who sais he never went this fast with the bike (+55 y/o man - i could feel he wasn´t lying).
And this is why i register myself here, hope to count with you for some doubts and help.
Regards
