Clocks Show Wrong Mileage

Hi guys. I hope you can help.

I have agreed a sale on a 05 Factory R gen 2. The clocks show 2200 but it has actually covered 9500.

I am told by the very nice seller that the stator failed which caused it. It was replaced along with the rectifier and apparently there have been no other issues.

I don't know what either of these things are but can you set my mind at rest that it sounds legit? I've never heard of clocks resetting mileage before but the bike looks immaculate otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

Phil

It's a common fault on early Gen2 bikes mate. If the battery fails the clocks reset. Sounds to me like he is being honest as some unscrupulous sellers might try to make out it has the lower mileage.

Thanks. What an odd common fault!

Anything else you can suggest that I should look for?

apart from the usual wear and tear type things,
listen for noise when hitting the starter button, any grinding or clanking sounds are from a failing sprag clutch

if its a 2004/5 (i think that was the affected year) there was a recall for cracking swingarms, look inside the left (as you sit on the bike) side of the swingarm
