At least that's what I think it is, had 2 RSV Milles a few years ago, but got this one today. Registered in late 2003, am I right in thinking it's classed as an '04? Searching an '03 seems to bring up the older shape.

Anything I should know about this model? Also, the eternal nightmare...which pillion seat do I need? I can't keep up with how many models there are so any help would be appreciated.

Well, it's definitely a gen 2 'cos of the frame and bodywork, I think the radial calipers makes it a R model. There's no carbon, so not a factory, I think. But then someone will come along and correct me.

Nice looking bike anyway !

Cheers! Actually...Both mudguards, front ears, and both side panels are carbon (side panels have been lightly smoked)

But I don't know what's been put on & taken off, I think it's an RSV1000R.

Any top tips for this model? Was the sprag clutch as big an issue on these as it was on the old ones?
 
Great bike, looks good!!... I believe it's an RSV 1000R Factory as seeing that the front forks are ohlins & also the rims are belonging to the Factory model.

simple tips for the RSV's.

1. Disconnect the battery if you plan to park it for more than 3-5 days. the immobilier sucks the juice out of the batts darn fast.

2. If you hear squeaking sound coming from your rear brake, bleed it. it needs to be bleeded from time to time... a rough 2weeks to a month. If you don't like to do this often... then check out this permenant solution: http://apriliarsv.com/aprilia-rsvr/19528-rear-brake.html

so far those are what I encounter as a "normal" issue with the bike.
 
That's an Ohlins rear shock yes? If so you've a 2004 model RSVR Factory.
 
Andreas, yours is an 06 model. The OP has one registered in 2003, RSVR's then had silver frames (along with Showa forks & axial calipers).

Looking more closely at the OP's bike it's not right. It's got 06 onwards fairing (OEM), but 04 tank & seat. Any HPI markers on it? Cans are wrong too.........
 
The Gen 2 came out in sept 03 so there are 03 registered versions out there. The give away to an 03 version is a haga or edwards sig on the side of the tank which got dropped in early 04.

The Op's bike has the corect bodywork for an early Gen 2 albeit minus the decals except for the side panels and the wheels have been painted. The Factory versions had black frames and Radial calipers/Ohlins and the R versions had silver frames and axial calipers till 05. The frame colours changed again in 06 to gold for factory and silver for the R and the bodywork changed slightly on the sidepanels and tail.

The cans are a post 06 version with 2 stage cats. I would hope it has a suitable map as the earlier bikes are mapped for a 1 stage cat.

It's definitely a mix of parts yes, it was a cat C write off in 2006, so I reckon he hunted around for bits to tidy it up, but it all feels good and nothing is damaged, everything seems to fit. It has the Edwards signature on the tank, but like you say I noticed the side panels looked like an '06, so there are bits of various years, probably why I'm struggling to find a rear pillion seat (that'd be really helpful!)

I'm not sure what tuning or internal mods have been done, when I blip the throttle as fast as I can from idle it feels like a tiny misfire, kind of wants to stall but won't. Maybe it had race cans on before and was mapped for those?

Andreas I definitely have the same main side fairings as you, but my subframe is covered, the changes between some of these models were so subtle I can't keep up!

Gonna check it out fully once I get a dry day & see what I can improve, cheers for the pointers so far! Keep them coming!

That's an 04-05 model seat unit Leon. Double check by looking at the date stamp on the inside of the pillion cowl.
 
Cheers, noted! But it IS a 2.5 hour ride for me each way :( so I won't be able to do that for a while yet.

Definitely 04-05, it's a single piece seat/tail unit whereas the 06 onwards is split with a filler panel just in front of the cowl, long under seat panels whereas on 06 onwards they're much smaller. The date stamp will be inside the little cubby hole in the cowl.

The side fairings and belly pan are 06 onwards

Ok cheers, will do. I did notice the lion's head being cut off by the panel above was weird, but the standard '06 is like it as well!

Can anyone confirm standard gearing for my bike? It has 15-42 at the mo so it's probably downgeared. When I check online I see different results everywhere!

2004 RSV1000R.
 
Standard gearing (on my 06) is 16/40. I now run 15/42 (a popular conversion) - even at that, it's still 'long-legged'.
 
Yep.

15/42 seems the popular road option. I run 16/44 on my track bike, hits the limiter at 159.
