Dear fellow Aprilians.
This morning when I left for work, when I turned off the alarm (UK import) the bike started by it self! Strange as he** but I needed to leave for an imoportant meeting.
It behavied strange on the motorway, stopped once but started by it self again.... Italian Ghosts or something...

Reaching my destinaton I turned the bike of, it does not turn on again. All power out. Not life at all.
The technician I spoke to in the repair shop recommended to open up the alarm box ie remove/replace all cables. He suspects power or signal cables corroding/has bad connection. This due to damp weather. (Loads of strange stuff can happen then).
Do you know where the alarm box is placed?
I have ordered a new (charged in shop) battery from the shop. Waiting for the delivery within an hour.

I suspect the start engine has been running all way to the city ie 40min hence the battery is dead?
Start engine and solenoid dead? To soon to know.....

Last time I rode it 2 days ago it was light rain.
All ideas welcome. Where to start troubleshoot?

Update 7pm.
Replaced battery. When I connect minus pool the start engine is spinning by it self. NOTE the key is not in the egnition!!!

I removed the right fairing to see if I optically can see any bad/shorted connectors or wires. None found. Seems quite dry too...
There is a shortage somewhere. But where???

Trouble shooting continues...

I have no idea how to disconnect the alarm. I will download the repair manual tonight.
Cold be a starter relay that is shorted. I cannot locate it however...

In my experience, all alarms will, sooner or later, cause trouble. From your description, the first thing I would do is uninstall the alarm. The very nature of their installation means that they are not easy to remove by those who are not electrically knowledgeable - however - it is actually not too difficult. You need a competent vehicle electrician . . .

Yea...alarms sucks.
I will have it removed by the aprilia workshop.
Still on the troubleshooting topic, I try localising the starter relay / solenoid.
Anyone knows where it is?

starter relay / solenoid are with the electrics under the seat

You are going to need the downloadable workshop manual for the relay/solenoid check figures......

Another thought....if you're still stuck (and everyone suspects the alarm), try removing its fuse!

Ignition switch. After heavy rain, mine started refusing to turn off. Only recently started doing this, but have heard other people with same problem.

I located the Starter relay and the connections has melted :)
Ordered a new updated 150Amp on fleabay from UK for $25 incl shipping to Sweden.
I suspect the start engine might be smoked too because it was engaged for more than 30 minutes while driving to work.
Lets see what is happening after my replacement of the starter relay.
Stay tuned.

Iv had 3 alarms on 3 diffrent bikes and iv never had a problem with any of them data tool and meta i not really dont no y soon as some one has a problem the alarms is to blame straight away!

Appreciate all your feedback.

My main theory: Something is shorted and triggered the solenoid to activate and it burned after a while.
Now the I have replaced the starter solenoid with a 100Amp.
When turning on the bike I now get the "Err" flashing on the dash. It will just not start and the EFI comes on after a while. Warning triangle also on.

I have spent hours reading forum posts, trouble shooting guides etc. I am stuck now .
These are my observations and what I have found in my hunt for a solution.
- Diag mode
Tried getting to get the bike into Diag mode to read the error code [bike off, hold flash/lap switch, ign on for 30 seconds]. This procedure do not work at all! Do you have to use the diag tool from the shop? Different forums says different things. Maybe I do something wrong?
- Brown connectors, common problem
Yellow cables checked. Had 2. No problem found [common problem they burn because of bad connection high resistance and they get hot and melts]
- Immobiliser ecu.

Did a ocular check and everything looks fine. Can still be the Immobiliser ecu giving me trouble. Thing is you need to open up the water tight casing with a Dremel or similar tool.
- Checked all cable connections I found. Checked for bad cable isolation, shorted wires etc. No issues found
- Fuses. All ok
- I notice when I pull up the side stand the side stand indicator does not go out. Nor does the neutral light lit up. Qualified guess this is not the main fault but a side effect.

I am a bit puzzled to say the least. We dont have a qualified Aprilia workshops near by so I will spend some more time on this Italian babe before getting it on a trailer and to the shop.

Did not find a MC electrician to remove the alarm yet...

Appreciate all ideas mates...
