My 2003 Tuono (grey/gold) terminally failed its MOT. Cracked rear suspension mount.
Not convinced that I have the time or inclination to strip it all down get it it welded.
Any offer as either project or spares?
Brand new rear tyre, other than that its looks pretty much like any Tuono that's been ridden most days for 13 years.
around 25k miles give or take the odd speedo malfunction
If anyones innerested I'll sort some pics, but I refer to the above for general appearance/condition

Andy

I do intend getting a newer one!

will get some pics off to you today, a breaker has given me an offer of 'about a grand'

Andy,
What make are the wind protectors on the bars - how much are they - and how easy to fit?

they are Acerbis. I had them fitted but are apparently no biggy.
BUT i have to say I got no end of **** for being some kind of old git who was better off with coco and slippers if he thought he needed hand guards.........................just a thought.

Andy, just saw the photo of the cracked unit. You can get that welded for approx £220. Final result will be stronger than the original. Cause is usually the rear dogbone bearing, nearest rear wheel, ceased up... then hitting a pothole, etc. No need to strip bike. Just remove collector, and dogbone linkage and lie bike on old mattress, etc. Then get a good Aluminium welder!

Good advice, but he doesn't seem to be online very often, It's a difficult weld to fix that problem.. Where did you get the quote for £220? This is a frame structure, so it needs to be spot on and it is part of the frame. The bike needs to put on it's side to get access and most bike shops would want to strip it instead of laying it on it's side. I offered to buy it days ago, but he didn't get back to me...

Nick, Dutch welding specialist based in Cambridge called 'Deon van Rooyen' quoted £220. Price covers first 2 hours labour and travel within 80 mile radius. He might go further but you have to incentivise him. He has lots of experience welding alloy bike frames. http://allmetalweldingservices.co.uk

NB: If crack is lower half of lug, access is ready. If it goes into top half, it's more difficult to access without removing the frame, but is doable.

Deon's webpage showing 'Alloy motorbike welding' examples is here: http://www.allmetalweldingservices.co.uk/MobileOnsiteMotorcycleWeldingRepairs.html

PS: Some of the engine case welding wouldn't win a beauty contest, but that's not it's purpose... which is to save replacement costs and provide a sound weld, usually more strong than the original. Most of those 'less pretty' welds are not seen when engine casing re-installed.

Best of luck getting hold of Snowandy...! :)
