engine?

hi, fitted a race can of unknown make to my 12000 mile 03 rsv, 200 miles later the engine blow. (u can see the rear piston through the inlet manifold) is it just bad luck or have I missed something. have fitted race cans to other bikes with no ill effects are RSV@s any differant?

I have an 02 Mille RSV-R with a dead engine, I've read aprilia used the 'same' engine on various models & was wondering if it's really exactly the same, and which models/ years I can go for if buying a used one?

just as an exercise, if i had to swap engines for some reason in an early mille, is there a point where the engines changed enough for them not to fit. or are they all the same basic engine? i was just thinking if a later, more powerful engine came up at the right price on fleebay it would be...
