2000.5?

Being new the the world of Aprilia, what's up with the 2000.5 model year? I understand that 2000 was the first year the RSVR was imported to the US; is that why there's a ".5"? I was also told that Aprilia only made 1500 of the RSVR's in 2000; any truth to that?
