Why does the tac only go to 12000 rpms an other bikes rev to like 16-18000?

Bike is an Aprilia RSV Mille R 2000/1 with the axial mount front calipers using Ohlins forks... I understand front compression adjustment is in one fork, whilst rebound adjustment is in the other....which side is which please ? My handbook is less than helpful for the "R" ! :confused...
