righto heres another conundrum my 2001 rsv had a leaky petrol tank so i replaced one off ebay but the filler cap is different !!!! so is there a universal cap or can i find out which one i need by looking at the cap , why have they changed when both from a gen 1 , are they diff on a gen 2?

Have you gone from a metal tank to a plastic tank?
If so you need the plastic piece that sits under the filler cap, the filler caps are the same.
Gen 2 wont fit

No just gone from a metal leaky tank to a non leaky tank !

Post some pictures up of the differences between the 2 as it sounds like your doing something wrong / missed a piece out as the caps didn't change until the Gen 2
