Mosel Valley, Germany
Just dropping by to say hello to everyone. Just bought a Tuono R and collect it on 18th March, from Rotheram, before heading back to the Mosel Valley in Germany where it'll be used this summer. I'm from Northumberland, but spend part year there and part in the Mosel, 30 miles from the Nurburgring, where I run a bike tours business and bikers accommodation.

I've wanted a Tuono for ages, but the time is now right, as I'm getting on a bit and the old joints won't stand full-on race crouch anymore (still want the performance and thrills though!). I've bought what's described as a 2008 model on a 2008 plate. It's the red one (with chequred flag style decals), 4500 miles. I'm not very aware of the tuono models, so someone can maybe tell me - is that the 2008 model? (when did it change to the lion-head on the tank graphics? or was that only for cetain markets/models?).

Hope that some of you might be coming over my way this summer, maybe as part of a trip to the Ring or on the way to your touring destination. If so, it'd be good to see you drop by and you'd receive a warm welcome. If there's a few, we could always organise a bbq as we also have a bit of land, in the vineyards. Local roads are fantastic and well-suited to the Tuono.

Somewhere on the site theres a huge informative write up on the history of the T that Keith B did which explains all the updates etc. Think you'll find that the lions head was on the Gen II Factory red & white then later the black dream which was about 2009 / 2010 they also did the Daytona which was basically an R but with the factory paint job. Don't know if the history details the paint job changes but I think they were updated every year or two.

I'll see if I can find it for you.

Thanks - that'd be great. Look forward to reading it if you do manage to find it.

They are almost different bikes.

I've answered this before somewhere....but here goes.

Tuoldo (Gen 1) 02 - 05

Taller & larger than later model, based on the 2003 mille.
Single headlight etc.
You sit ON it when you ride.
V990 engine with 51mm TB's about 113 RWHP
Single can, 2-1 exhaust - flat spot in power from 5-6k, then loads.
Engine does produce a bit more grunt at low (2-3k) revs.

Tunuo (Gen 2) 06 - 09

Smaller and lower than early version, based on 06 RSVR
twin headlights, tail as per RSVR
You sit IN it to ride, much more like a japanese bike feel. Feet further forward.
Ti or Evo Engines 54 or 57mm TB's dependant on age, about 121 or 126 rwhp.
Twin Exhausts, linear power - but bias towards top end.

Rough model history

02 - Tuono R model. Carbon, Ohlins and Oz parts. Limited edition, rare & georgious
03 - Tuono Fighter. Tulip red/Gold, Magnet grey/Gold. Black Brembo wheels. Showa/Sachs. Plastic bodywork
03 - Tuono Racing. Black, yellow number boards. Carbon bodywork, Ohlins, white Oz wheels. Also race bellypan, nose and other bits. Close ratio gearbox.
04 - Tuono R (again) Black/red wheels, Silver/red wheels, Fluoro red/black wheels, Showa/Sachs. Basically same as Fighter model but new colours
04 - Factory. Similar to Racing, blue Oz wheels, Ohlins. white number boards. No race gear.
05 - None produced - they are 04's

06 - New Model based on RSVR. uses Titanium series engine. Blue Oz looky-likey wheels, Showa/sachs suspension, colours, red/black or black/grey or silver/grey.
07 (07.5 USA) Evo Engine, colours red/black, matte black/grey, or blue/white - so called "Greek flag".
07 - Factory. Evo Engine, Red Lions head tank Oz wheels (blue at first, gold later), Ohlins suspension, Carbon bodywork.
08 - R model new colours - white replaced black/grey
09 - R model colours - silver, blue/white & Orange
09 - Factory - Black dream colour scheme

I might not have all the colours right for the last year or so - as it's difficult to establish exactly when they change, and the importer still had stock of some colours. I haven't covered some of the really tiny details but it should be a rough guide.

Just type in model history into the search box there's ;oads there. Still can't find the one That Keith B did. Try looking on Tuono world web site I think that was where it origionally came from.

welcome on board mate, would love to head that way one day as a reminder of my the military exercises in that area while stationed in Paderborn :yes

Just backing up Tricky there. They are completely different bikes with the Gen 1 being a much better bike ;)

If you like getting your hands dirty playing mechanics, sorting out Spragg clutches, electrical problems, Poor batteries, ECU & various other Gen 1 issues besides some dodgy styling cover ups you could be right. If in doubt cover it in Carbon Fibre, jobs a goodun.

I do like your racing though. Have always had a thing for white wheels. Think it's an eighties thing, white socks & shoes, stay press trousers etc etc.

LOL Tricky. Maybe the 1st owner sorted out all the problems on my bike. I shall learn never to take the ECU apart on the next ride whilst sat outside a pub just because it isn't running right then dropping the spare chip I have on me on the floor thus rendering it useless. That ECU is staying well closed now.

Surely all the problems you've mentioned there are Gen 2 issues as well, Brown connector problems, spragg clutches, electrical problems, misting up speedos, crap rear suspension, poor tank range, no wind protection.

Maybe all these SLIGHT issues add character to both the bike and the person riding them.

PS answer the forum ride out thread

PPS welcome to the forum River Valley. Nice intro there which many forget.

Brown connector problems, seems like an uphill gardening issue to me LOL. Speedos, got a point, rear suspension, who needs it anyway (Stix in mind) poor tank range. Hmmmm got a good point, plan your route well in advance. wind protection that ones for poofs & need to be doing over a ton to notice it.

Thanks very much. That's very useful and interesting reading. If 2008 didn't have a 'red flag' version, then mine is definately an 07 registered in 08 with that plate. Think I've paid top dollar at £4500, albeit with only 4k miles? Just shows, should have done my research BEFORE buying! N'r mind, it's about riding isn't it.

Welcome to the forum mate.
It doesn't matter what you've paid, as long as you are happy with it, thats all that matters.

RV, welcome mucker. Yer machine looks kool and it's colours are very rarely seen, at least up here.

Whit does it matter if it's an 07 or an 08 it's minted and yer gettin to use it on some fantastic roads.

Enjoy. :thumbup

I agree aldo. Think I paid top dollar for mine but I love it and it's going no where. Had it 2 years now and it's staying. Enjoy it mate

if it helps I'm new too - I paid more for mine , less miles & newer - so what? Doesn't mean it's better, just means it's mine.

hang-on...yu got a lovely bike...and where you live...you get the best deal out of all of us! (have i opened a tin of worms, here?)
