giant thumb mod?

I have a 2001 millie is it just me or do you need an incredibly long thumb to get to the indicator switch? or keep blasting the horn like i do ?

not just you... thats why i changed my 2002 model... people say you get use too it... but i didnt... makes riding through London much much more pleasureable !! :inlove

And it was easy to do? :dunno gonna follow you on this and do the same mod to mine. And here i was thinking i was a stump thumbed mutant!! :thumbup

promise you... very easy... ... ...

lift up left hand shroud by big fuse box... discount the correct connector... i then plugged my new switch in 1st just to make sure it all worked before going any futher :pirate ... then unplug it again... remember/take pic of original wire routing... cut 3 cable ties... undo 2 screws on the original switchgear... take off... & pull the wiring through carefully !! :biggrin

then stick new switchgear on making sure its sits correctly in the locating hole (different sized screws though)... re-route the wiring as before... connect new wire connector... pull shroud down... re-zip cable ties... check for enough cable slack when turning handle bars... then enjoy !! :thumbup

think thats all !! :eatcorn

winner, cheers mate no more horn blasting innocent passers by :biggrin

Makes me wonder why it was changed in the first place.

Which Italian genius thought ' I know, we'll design and make a totally new switch assembly that puts the indicators in a different place to just about anything else on the market'

I always assumed it was like that 'cos all Apes have always been that way, obviously not.

Well done for finding the cure :thumbup

I've just done mine today. I saw a switch go for £80 last week on eBay, I got one 2 days later as a buy it now for £23 delivered and I fitted it in 15 minutes.

I changed my old style switch to the new one some time ago. Did need to do some soldering as the new model had two connectors which needed to be combined in the old one. Reason for me was the faded worn look of the switches, my thumb is long enough apparently ;-)

Regarding the horn position on the newer units, if you ever drive around in southern europe you will understand that the horn is an important tool, used more frequently than indicators, brakes etc.:big grin

Ciao,
Frans

I've got used to the odd switchgear. So much that I had a cbf1000 when I got knocked off and I couldn't get the hang of the 'normal' positions of things!!!

I must have weird hands as I find the switchgear easier to operate on Milles as my thumb naturally rests over the indicator switch!
