Evening lads.

My 03 Tuono is being delivered in a few days.

Any idea where i can get a part manual and service manual please ?

Also someone mentioned wires to cut, airbox/exhaust restrictor ?

Can i also get (if not in manuals) any suspensions settings you boys are using on average ?

Gives you something to do on a Sunday

Where to start?

There is a wealth of information (once again) over on t'other forum at AF1. Look in the TechTips section of the main forum over there the wire cut to derestrict etc is covered. I would assume yours will already be done.

Suspension mods - an Ohlins rear is popular :) but you know that.
Drop the front forks to show about 4 rings gives better turn in.
Use a 180/55 rear rather than a 190/50 it turns better
Get an Ohlins steering damper
Re-valve the forks (ohlins again)
Fit Oz or similar forged wheels - makes a big difference to the handling.
download a "how to" on suspension and set the static and dynamic sag on your bike, for a start on the suspension.

Engine Mods.
Open the airbox with either a Rene or Evo or look on RSVZone a lad there makes one. Fit a PCIII to sort the fueling. Rene type sound best
Fit a full 2+2 system Akra's are the best (IMHO) or Leo Vince or Arrows.
Try bigger throttle bodies, 54mm or 57mm off later bikes.

Misc
Lower the handlebars about 10mm to get more weight over the front
Try an MPL or Evo Or the one Mogster is talking about clutch slave cylinder to reduce the pressure required.
Swap out the chain sprockets to about 16/44 to reduce overall gearing - it's geared for about 175 in top as standard

Cosmetics.
There is tons of Carbon bits for Tuoldo's/millies, the rear seat cowls are difficult to get hold of, watch Ebay.
Many swap out the micky mouse style round mirrors for either the mirrors off the Tunuo - same as the Shiver, Mana etc.
Or put CRG type bar end mirrors on the front indicator stalks - Beau1k invented this mod, do a search on AF1 to see more details.

Get yourself an Optimate or similar - and keep the bike plugged in. the mill kills the battery very quickly if it doesn't fire straight up, you need a well topped up battery.

Good point on the gearing. New gearing ordered. I assume the speedo runs off the front wheel on these ?

Carbon is irrelevent. Power is largly irrelevent to me too, coming from an XT660 this is going to feel like a rocket ship anyhow.

Handling though.. Deffo important.

Will take it up to my mates to get him to set the suspension for me, he does lots of BSB stuff and knows what he's doing. May also put it on the dyno to see how the curve looks currently.

Ohlins rear is likely to be found and bought asap though along with a set of front springs and a fork re-build.

Speedo works off a sensor carried on the rear brake caliper bracket, it counts the disc bolts.

Has anyone mentioned the rear brake on a Tuono?

It's basically optional. Many of the bikes you will read about the rear brake is useless, the location of the master cylinder causes gas bubbles to get trapped, and it requires a bit of fiddling to bleed.

In fairness we have 2 Tuono's in the garage and my rear brake is fine, Liz's isn't so hot, but still OK.

As long as you treat it like a carpark brake you will be fine.

Watch out for the "flat spot" on the power curve of the Tuoldo. Between 5-6k on most bikes the power graph flattens off and then climbs steeply at 6k. It can be fun, but will wheelie the bike in first, second and sometimes third if you don't know about it, can be embarassing if plod's about. :lol

to smooth out the graph you need a twin exhaust or a modified collector, and the PCIII etc. already mentioned. The Gen2 Tunuo doesn't suffer this it's caused by the 2-1 exhaust system.

Rear brake is the least of my worries, not something i ever use. I've also owned a few Ducati's so am happy with them being ***** :)

I've also recently owned about half a dozen of the bikes people say "it's impossible not to wheelie it", the Superduke, 2001 R1, 2005R1, KTM950SMR.... somehow even when i've been TRYING to wheelie it i've still managed not to. It's a skill i have :)

PC and system is not a road i wanna head down. Happy with stock machine and stock power. :)

I must agree about wheelies, I can't do them to save my life, exceptions being the mountain at Cadwell & when I really don't need one.:rolleyes

Regards the power - you say that now,:yes but beware, these bikes get under your skin, and tinkering and modding become a way of life.:thumbup

I have a 1997 600 SRAD i've been rebuilding for the wife, started life as a non-runner.
Am stripping calipers fitting new seals and maybe pistons on Weds. Then onto the new carbs or whatever is giving it bad fuelling...

the last thing i need is more tinkering ;)
