Hi All

After doing 3 trackdays with no issues and using it 10 days ago to go to work on, my Tuono now won't start :-(

I did let the fuel run really really low and had to put some in via a petrol can at home, it now tries to start/turns over but wont fire up?......any ideas?

Give us a clue,....
Model,year of bike?
How old is the battery?
Have you tried charging it?
Do you have an alarm fitted?
Have you checked the spark plugs?
Does it smell of fuel/flooding?
 
It's in the huff, cos it wants to be out on the track again.

What was in the can you filled the bike up with ?

I filled it with super unleaded.

It's a 2004 tuono.

Battery fully charged and on an optimate.

Spark plugs???? Where do you find those lol...seriously.
 
Does it try to start at all or just have the starter grind and grind with no "pop"?
 
It's probably flooded whip ya plugs out n clean em up gen 1 has 2 per cyclinder I think , keep trying to start it when nothing happens ends up ******* ya sprag clutch up so I've read,
 
It does turn over normally but wont fire, so I think I'll be brave and try and remove the tank to get at the plugs, only ever seen this done once .....and on a fazer 600 many moons ago lol.

Its a Friday job....will update you all then, thanks for the advice though!
 
Yeah, if it just cranks and never tries to start, next step is to check for spark. Good luck.....
 
RF I know this might sound real stupid but have yer checked that the KILL button isn't engaged.
 
Mr A, we have all fell for that one at some time.

Or being convinced that there is still some petrol left when its empty.:lol

Ain't that the truth! But if it was the kill switch, it shouldn't even spin the starter, no?
 
Sort of fixed :)
My mate came round and took the plugs out, they smelled of fuel and still sparked.

So he put a voltmeter on the battery and it wasn't powerful enough to start the bike,it was at about 8.6 volts when trying to turn over.

So we got the jump leads out of the car, hooked the car up to the bike gave - it a couple of minutes and boom, the bike starts up :)

so the conclusion is.......The battery is up the spout it has been on the optimate for 3 days and still can't do it.

Any ideas on what brand of battery to get to replace this old one?

Hey Steve--you're not on your own

I went out on my Gen 1 yesterday-hadn't been used for a while so I set it charging up on the optimate 2 days ago.

It seemed to take on the charge ok but when i came to get it going-it only just lurched into life-once running it was ok

Like you i ran it onto reserve and chucked some freshly purchased gas in from a can and it would turn over for a while but not start up

I have had the plugs out- they were wet with fuel and were a bit gappy so i adjusted them to 0.65mm and wanged them back in (tested them before reinstall-good sparks) but still no start up

I recall having to change the battery on my first Gen 1 after only 1 year of use-so i do think that will be my next course of action-the question is do any of you guys run a motobatt or any thing other than OEM?

I'd not heard of motobatt before so it's a no from me mate.....just the old optimate from my fazer days.

Bang the volt meter on it when yout turning it over mate, under 9 volts and it won't start.....so I've found out lol.
 
From what I hear,Motobatt are good batteries.I know two fellas that use them on a Ducati and a Triumph with no issues at all.I tend to stick to Yuasa as I have never had a bad one.
