West Cumbria Marra!
Alreet folks, hows it gaan? Not been on fur a bit as been oot ont bike, or other outdoor stuff. Was after some advice. Need to insulate me loft - 1930's built, floor boarded out with minimal depth fibreglass rolls under it, no felt under slate tile roof, open rafters. Want to put insulating boards into rafters, leaving an air gap etc

Any advice on type eg kingspan. Also want to inulate flat corrugated roofed workshop. Any ideas please?Ta in advance like marras!

Me dad insulated his garage with polystyrene sheets.Stuck 'em between the roof struts, then boarded over the top.

I assume this is for the garage :-
Poly sheeting secured to A-frames (to ensure all water is kept out), followed by polystyrene blocks cut to size wedged between the A-frame joists.

Then, under the floor boarding, a thicker insulating layer of rockwool.

Its best to have air circulating through vents somewhere to aid the drying process off wet bikes, cars etc.

Some people use loose beads of polystyrene, but this can get messy if it leaks out.

Try the council, you might get a grant or some assistance with funding.

hi bandito im in the building trade its what i do for a living, as far as the house goes if it was an open celing to pass building regs you would have to put 75mm kingspan between the rafters first with a 25mm air flow between the top of kingspan and the slates, then overboard that with 50mm kingspan, but as it has nothing to do with building regs its up to you what you do, if you use polystyrene it needs to be twice as thick as the kingspan to get the same effect 75mm kingspan 2.4 x 1.2 is about £23 a sheet from a builders merchant.
