The bike has been off the road 1.5 months now, tucked up in my garage under cover.

I decided to get it out the other day and start it. It seems really sluggish to start, but did fire up on the second attempt and fire up first time every time after that.

I keep the battery on an Oxford Oximiser.

So I guess I am asking is the Oxford conditioner any good, and will the battery still go downhill over winter.

Also what should the voltage read on the dash?

:thumbupI use an Optimate, had an Oxford oximiser and it just wasn't up to the job. The Optimate is pricey £40-odd but worth every penny. I've also just stepped up to the 14amp battery which has improved starting no end! Also petrol does go off over time (which I'm sure you're aware of) this could be a factor. The screen battery output is supposed to be between 13-15amps:thumbup

Before panicking buying mode kicks in the Oximiser was fine last year.

So my battery dash reading is showing 12.0V without ignition runing and 13.8V with it running. Is that OK?

I've just re-read my Optimate destructions and it states in there that if the battery charge drops below 12.3V, the charger will kick in again, so i would say that a reading of 12v without ingnition running is a bit low...the running read-out indicates that the charging system appears to be working. See if there's any other bright ideas on here before shelling out, particularly if it was ok last winter.

The only thing that has changed between this year and the last is the bigger battery. The 14 YT...(whatever) battery replaced the 12 .....

So I wonder if the Oximiser isn't up to keeping the bigger battery topped up.

Any ideas anyone?

Not sure on the Oxford Otimizers charging characteristics though a friend of mine had one to keep his ZX12R battery topped up, a YTX14BS incidentally and it struggled on that one too. I'd ebay the Oxford one and go for an Optimate 4 as it's far more advanced in it's charging and battery conditioning programs

i've changed battery type, and after 2 months of not being on the optimate it fired up first time. RESULT!

will remember to plug it in on occasion over the winter though

I have had two Oxy's on both my bikes with no trouble so Far .... 03 RSV & a Busa and both need a good Battery...
