Will it be ok to ride to work???

Hi guys,

As you know my front wheel has a wee issue with not spinning freely, it's catching at one point on every revolution. this has only happened since i put my reconditioned Galfers back on. It will go round witha little push from me but not continueously. I had planned to get out today for a quick spin to see if it just beds itself in but never got the chance and was going to ride to work tomorrow.

Question is will it be ok????

It depends on how badly its binding , I am guessing that either the disk is warped or one or more of the buttons hold the disk to the carrier are not seated properly.
another option is that one of the carriers is distorted.

The only real way to test is to pull the pads from one side and spin the wheel , this will tell you which one it is.
Another test is to tape or hold firmly a felt tip pen about a piece of paper thickness off of the disk then spin the wheel you will soon see if its warped

Yeah Scott......that's what i thought at first, warped disc but as they are just back from a really good engineering company (ABE) i discounted that as i'm sure they'd have told me. I'm just puzzled about the whole thing as they were fine before going away!!

stuck piston in one of your calipers ?
the carriers are seated properly on the wheel ?

Yes and Yes bud, i did have to free on piston off slightly though and, come to thinkofit,it was on the side that's catching! WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS HERE THEN BUD??

Andi, go out and ride it slowly to start and once you are happy it is OK increase your speed, i am sure it is fine and needs ridden and used, i bet after you get back it is gone, build up of stuff on discs and pads needing to be removed, as has been said you need to check the pistons are moving freely.

why don't you bleed your brakes and make them spongy temporary too see if they are either your A) Caliper(s) B) Axle/ Bearings (shot bearings or over torqued axle)
if A) fix your darn caliper you need your brakes working properly on that fat boy mille! Make sure one set of the pads on one side is not worn (out) more than the other!!!
B) if the bearings are shot don't ride it mate that **** is dangerous! if it needs a little help
put bunch of grease/WD40 on your bearings like me when I was a little kid to make it go faster and faster and faster! lol until I tboned a car while going 49KMPH and flipped over the car and landed like a cat on my hands and feet on the asphalt lol just forget the T-bone part incase you were hungry. NVM If you need to take it to work you should be alright cuz only God Knows how many times I took mine to work with serious problems while trying to get to work everyday and guess what I'm still alive! :)
