Will a 190/55 fit?

Sorry, I know this is old ground but I did try searching for the answer!

From this forum I've learned that a 180/55 Pirelli/Metzeler is ideal, but for a Dunlop the 190 is preferrable. (Due to 6" rim).

We've also learned that the 190/55 gives a better contact patch than a 190/50, and the higher sidewall should promote better turn in.

Given that I have a Dunlop GP Racer on the front that's covered less than 1000 miles, I need to put a Dunlop on the back.

Has anyone actually tried fitting a 190/55 on an early shape (2003) mille?

Thank you!!!

i have a matched set of the 2CTs..on the track the turn in is exclnt

I've just ordered a 190/55 GP Racer. I'm at Brands Hatch on Thursday so I'll see how it does.
Last time I was there I ran the 180/55 and found it squirmed a little on big lean, so I'm hoping for more confidence this time out.

Let's just hope it doesn't foul the chain...

Hey AUS

How ya doin mate :thumbup

Thinking about those tyres myself, so does the 190/55 get any wider, hence closer to the chain then the older 190/50??

Cheers Pete

Not much use but maybe a Dunlop thing ?.
I have a D208RR's on the bike a 190/50 at the rear at am getting a little chain strike, it didnt happen on the DC's so the Dunlop does seem to have a slightly differant profile even for the same size tyre.

Just check for chain rub.
Dont forget if your chain aint set correctly i.e. to loose this will create more chian rub on the edge of the tyre.

I'll rate GP Racers all day long as i've been using them since they came out. Excellent in the dry. Not bad in the very wet but not brilliant in the inbetween! The start of the rain when things start to get damp! Be warned!

Which compounds you gone for?

Normally medium front with Economy rear

Yes, chain rub is my fear. I'll have to do my best with wheel alignment and chain tension but we're past the point of no return.

I've used GP Racers since the beginning of 08, but on my R6. I've always been happy with them but faster friends consider them 'condoms' and sneer at them. Having ridden on Supercorsa's I do prefer them but GP Racers are £50 a set cheaper at least!

In the UK I've normally used Soft Front, Medium Rear but when I did a 3 day in Cartagena I used Medium Front and Endurance rear.
Cartagena is so abrasive I still shagged my rear in one day...
