Hi guys purely out of interest which would you expect to accelerate quicker 1st to 3rd gears, an 05 rsvr with 15t front sprocket or a 58 675?

My mate has the 675 and seems to hammer me till we come to a corner, I'm not a great rider but he'll admit he's worse!

thats what we both thought, his seems quicker with me on it too, at first we thought it must be due to me being 16kg heavier!

ha ha true I was still hoping my beast would have him covered though!

we've not done that yet to be fair mostly cos i like to get him to some corners!

My mate had a Bimota SB6R with the tuned GSXR11 motor,& top gear roll ons out a villages in Spain,he could only just keep with the 675!!!! I know he's about 17 stone ,but they are bloody fast bikes,I just couldnt put up with the rideing position

really? cos i'm 6'5 and 17.5 an i don't mind it. Its lack of weight is fun too but i wouldnt tell him that!

675 according to MCN

1/4-mile acceleration 11 secs
Power 123bhp
Torque 53ftlb
Weight 165kg

RSVR according to MCN

Top speed 172mph
1/4-mile acceleration 11 secs
Power 143bhp
Torque 76ftlb
Weight 180kg

So it should be about even, although i'd hazard a guess from my experience that the RSVR is harder (physically and mentally) to get the initial power down from 1st to 3rd compared to the 675. Try it as a roll on beside one another in 2nd from 40mph and see who gets there first then ;)

ha ha sweet stats and i will try that, I guess your right its a bit easier to go harder earlier on the 675

Down to gearing...i think the 675 has a 47 rear sprocket a standard,....i run 15 front and 42rear and it goes good enough for me

Most bikes 600's and 1000's accelerate similar....never that much in it

yeah its no biggy I just found it interesting with em being pretty different engines

Fast bikes did a comparison against an R6 and the rsv was nec and neck with it!!

Need a 1066 big bore kit to start having some ooopmmh.............but we havent bought the RSV for power have we.

I weigh 14.5 stone and have an 03 model RSV with lowered gearing, airbox kit, race can and chip.

Two of my mates are both approx 11 stone, both have 08 GSXR 600s.

We're pretty much neck and neck from the lights, although I can sometimes just outdrag them. Hardest thing I find is that you can't use full throttle in first to the red line as it wheelies so you have to choose second at just the right time- early enough so you can pin it and drive, but not too early that it bogs down.

I had a 2007 R6 before this with lowered gearing, pc3 and micron system. That used to beat the gixxers everytime...

Think its weight and power delivery.

My old 750 Monster was great in the traffic light grand prix. Always won up to about 50mph!

all it falls down to is the way the bikes put the power down when racing ive had 400's out pull me off the line as they can get the power down quicker without wheelieing everwhere

just keep doing him on the brakes and corners

whats the standard number of teeth on my 05 rear sprocket? i may change that the front is already 15t

to be honest I don't think the rsv's are that quick but they handle well. They say rsv's should be compared to a gsxr750 but my mates blows mine for dust. Its how it makes me feel when am riding the bike that makes me love it- the package not the poke.

i think we are all a bit guilty of getting carried away with capacity, we like to think that because we ride a 1000 that it must be fast but in truth our 10 year old 1000 technology is performance equal to a modern 600.

modern 600 performance and lighter bike must give a similar power to weight ratio,
the benefit of our bike is that it still handles well given its age (and was bloody great in its day) and because its a V twin the power comes in early with lots of traction so when road riding we can access the performance more of the time giving an early advantage which is eroded a bit on track.

i would imagine that a 4 year old Gsxr K5 1000 has a similar mid range with stacks more top end to an rsv

BUT what often gets forgotten is that we are not comparing £ for £. i bought my rsvr for £2300 with loads of extras, that's bloody cheap for a bike like ours with ohlins, oz, brembo, carbon etc

it still handles & brakes well, good stomp, feels special and exotic and has a good scene and camaraderie to go with it and is £3-6k cheaper!

if you want to take on a jap 600, 750, 1000 just make sure you are a better rider as that is where real speed comes from.
